Going to upgrade my turbo and injectors soon. Nuke told me to go with corn as well as a couple of other people. I use my car as a daily driver and was concerned about getting fuel if I'm on the road. Please post about locations that do not have E85 in your travels. I would love moar power, but don't want to get in an area where there may not be fuel. I am in Elk River and travel to Mankato frequently. Please post up with any and all info. Others may use it as a guide as well, as I've heard comments on here about different runs where people were concerned about E85. Maybe we could even post some kind of map for reference. Thanks Terry
I just went and this was a concern too but its not that bad, plenty of e85 stations and apparently Mn is the only state that has the most e85 stations. At least 10 stations within 10 mile from my house anyways. Maplewood/Saint Paul area but if you have the "new" cell phones, just download the e85 app and it will show you all the e85 stations in whichever area/state you are in and its been dead on so far for me using it, though I try to remember where the stations are in every city if its possible or is one. Road trips, just look it up before you head out and call to make sure they have e85 20mpg is my best and 17-18 more realistic with some city Power from it is crazy, it was like driving a stock lgt to a stage 2 lgt and maybe even a bit more Starting it up in the morning in the winter sucks and would totally be embarrassing if you have a date or friends That's the only con about e85, Mpg, it was never good from the start at ~24, e85~18
Thanks guys. I guess I should have known that. There is an app for everything. I just picked up a Galaxy s3 so I'll check into it.
Just be aware that some of the e85 websites and AP's are very out of date, or inaccurate. Just get an AP, and get a 91 and e85 map.
I use the Flex Fuel Finder AP for I-Phone. Like KA-T_240 stated you have to check out the stations or call since they don't really keep these AP's up to date. It has saved my ass a couple of times. You learn fast not to put your self in that situation and filling up at 1/4 tank has been the best way to avoid a desperate search for E85. You will like the HP and TQ gains.
Yup, my buddy usually takes a 5 gallon container with e85 in it on road trips. Never needed it, but been close. Calling ahead is always a good idea also. If you want to go e85 in the future, and you have any common routes, I would start looking now for e85 stations.
That's ok, post whores don't care what their post count is, as long as it's consistently growing! lol
There are many members running E85 all winter long without issue. Nuke told me that it can be hit or miss with cold starts in the winter. Last winter I ran pump gas, based on Nukes recommendation. This year the STI is riding out the winter as a garage queen so I'm still on E85. I had Nuke tune me on both pump and E85 and have a Tactrix cable to switch maps.
Just takes some tweaking. Nuke fine tuned mine and I've had ZERO cold start issues since. Also that link I posted should show you nearby E85 stations.
only time i have issues is when its 10 degrees or under other than that its love! not to mention the great smell of cornjuice! unless your hungover.. it will make you gag.. happend to me at proving grounds last year.. i threw up because of the e85 fumes.. embarrassing, it sucked..
Because of my long and colorful history with the law, I have not had a hangover for 22+ years. I should be covered there
I broke my record today and am now getting 22.25mpg on e85 but that was on cruise control going 60mph and pissing off almost every driver on the freeway. That's almost what i was getting on pump, 24 You said you weren't going corn, terry
Kind of the purpose of this thread. To help me decide. I am going to upgrade my turbo and injectors, so I am just getting info before I make a purchase.
Go for it, You should be able to get at least 350miles per tank since we have the same cars, may even be able to squeeze 360+miles out of it or 22mpg Do it
Like I said Terry mileage is all up to your right foot. I've cruised under 65mph for 75 miles and not burn 1/4 tank. I can also finish a tank in 150 miles city driving and having a lot of fun. It does get a little annoying to have to find a station sometimes. What I've done is just fill up with a gallon or two with gasoline and drive to the next e85 station. Of course not getting on throttle to much that I end up in high boost. Then fill up with e85 at the next station. I have the zeitronics e85 analyzer I'm my car so I can see what percentage of ethanol I'm running all the time. With having my fuel light on and get a few gallons of gasoline, My % from E70 went down to E40. When I filled back up with e85, it went back up to E67. Which isn't bad at all.
Harder starting from my understanding. But it sounds like it's hit and miss from one tune to the next.
Thanks for all the info Ronnie. Great pleasure to meet you too. That was another question, If I could "get buy" on pump gas if needed. Knowledge in all areas is a big advantage in my decision. Thanks all and keep the info coming. So far I'm pretty convinced to try this.
I run E85 all year and drive my car every day. Usually do 10-12k miles per year. I'm not outside the cities too often so it's pretty easy for me to find it. I usually fill up at half a tank anyways just to be safe. If you just plan ahead a little you should be fine. I don't have cold start issues. That is mostly injectors/tune. If you have an E85 tune and you're forced to put pump gas in the tank you really need to make sure you're not getting into boost at all for the next tank or two. It all depends on your tune, but that's definitely asking for trouble and should only be done if absolutely necessary.
Cold start is only in the morning and you will have to restart 2-3 times before it can run on its own but the good news is my tune isn't finished yet so that may be why, I'll see how it starts after my tune is complete
I have had zero cold start issues with my 09. I teach snowboarding, the car will sit outside for hours in very cold temps. It always starts. Also when i take the train for my day job it sits outside, zero start issues. I think the tune has a lot to do with it.
Zero cold start issues here as well. I've only had a handful of single-digit cold starts, no problems for any of them.
Dunno yet. I'll put it on the rollers at the next dyno day and see what happens. Normal gains are + 20'is wtq across the curve for other similar lightly modded 5th gens.
I know right? There is always a weak link. I will probably still stay on pump until I can get some new injectors. Just sent payment on the Blouch 20G. You will see the mushroom cloud when the wife finds out.
