Hey everyone, I was wondering what does the FMIC do? I mean i know that it makes the air colder, but is there any gains with it?

And another thing, how much will a reflash of ECU cost?

    Thanks, Taras

Unless you are going with a much bigger turbo, you wont benefit from a FMIC. the pressure drop across the the intercooler will be greater, larger volume of space for air to pass through from the turbo outlet to the throttle body.

Need down pipe for stage 2. Stage 1 is stock exhaust.

Stage 1 is just a modification to the ECU and takes into account you are running stock parts. It's a tune that gets optimal performance out of your stock setup.

That is just engine management. Changes the fuel and boost maps. There are many ways to go stage one. Most popular I think is Access Port from Cobb ($650-700 I think) because of the ease of use and simplicity.... well that was redundent. I am betting open ecu will be taking over as it gets better and more people start to understand it (nothing to a little in cost).

I am not the best person to talk to for that. There are at least two people on this board doing tunes with it. There are a lot more running open now too.

Might want to start using the search button a little before someone flames you. There are a lot of exhaust threads already. I know ebay stuff has come up in there a lot and you could ask your question in one of those threads if your question wasnot answered reading the thread.

I can't complain for $325 shipped. The rust comes right off with chrome polish. Its a cheap grade of stainless, but better than mild steel.

Downpipes will gain you more than a catback because the stock downpipe is so crappy.

A stage one tune mostly just turns your boost up about 3 psi. It also leans out the car quite a bit so it runs much smoother.

OpenECU is the word used now for a group of free programs that a bunch of wonder nerds have built so amateurs can tune their own cars. I've used it to take my car from stock to stage one to stage two and now to my E85 setup.

I have the ebay exhaust. Its ok. What I would do if I were to do it over is buy the ERZ down pipe off of ebay and buy a name brand cat back. The problem with buying the whole turbo back stuff is that the down pipe will not bolt up to any other exahust.

I havent heard anything really bad about ERZ, a few cases of a wierd flange or something.

otherwise you can have a custom one whipped up. Nathan WRXBoy2003 has made numerous exhuas pieces for me and they all work / look great! Plus you dont have to pay shipping :)

I got my exhaust off ebay. I got a performance import trends PIT 2.5" cat-back stainless steel exhaust for $250 shipped. I like it personally its not too loud it has a muffler and then I just added on a boost controlled exhaust cut out that opens at 6psi LOL. Personally I hate loud exhausts.

    http://www.performance-trends.com/ < exhaust

    http://www.atpturbo.com/root/releases/release091004.htm < cut out

Basically you could find a used exhaust thats a name brand that you likke and save $$ on ebay. Exhausts and downpipes are cool to buy used....now I would never buy a used turbo or injectors off ebay but parts like that heck why not.

Flame me all you want but my car is 90% eBay and makes great power. The only parts on my car (engine wise) that arent ebay are my BOV, turbo, and injectors. EVERYTHING else even the car is ebay. Its pretty funny but here's my mod list if you want. http://www.subiechick.com/mods.html

ebay used is one thing, but ebay for new stuff that is cheap is another.

i agree buying used stuff off ebay or clubs is the way to go for cheap quality non-wear parts!

It really all depends on what it is and who you are getting it from. Things like exhaust, intercoolers and plumbing, and other items without moving parts are no big deal, and with how inexpensive they are, you could buy three of each.

Other things are at your discression. I bought my turbo on ebay, but it was through a major supplier(Himini Racing) of Garrett turbos. Same deal with my injectors, gauges, rods, and a ton of other crap. Just be smart about it. When you see something like "TiAL wastegate only $39.95!!!!" its good to be a little sceptical.

That exhaust cut out sounds awesome. I want one. Is it louder on wrx than on that golf gti in the video? How hard is it to wire the boost line to it and where it connects?
    Thanks a lot, Taras
