i was driving in 5th and excellerated and hit boost, so around three grand and around 65 mph it hesatated and didnt really respond. than i down shiffted into 4th gear to go around the turn and got on boost again and the car did the same thing except worse, there was also loose metal or some kind of debree that i heard in the engine bay at the same time. then the CEL light started to flash and i pulled over as soon as possible shut it off and got towed to my house. i also turned on the fan after all this and it smelled like oil and exhaust gases. let me know what you guys think. sorry if it makes no sense. it's an 02 wrx with 106,499 miles on it, stage 2 mods and it have missfire codes on the accsess port thats about it. PS: I also needed my timeing belt changed and was going to do it on friday or saturday if that helps at all. thanks guys -jake
doesnt sound good mang, maybe broken timing belt, maybe thrown rod, maybe coil pack, burned valve, injector, it could be alot of stuff
Yeah that is not good. Sounds like a bearing failure. I would dump the oil first and look for glitter. If there is alote of metal then its time for a new shortblock. Looks like Jason has one, I have one as well if you need it.
A visual inspection is best after checking the oil, but from the sounds of it, you broke something expensive.
yeah i will do that as soon as possible. and i will definutly keep you kuys in mind for the shortblocks (Jason, Mattt) what would be the best way to find out. i have it at my house right now. and i dont want to bring it to a auto place to have it looked at becuase they will just charge a lot. i would rather bring it to MTKA subaru or some were that i trust.
call driftn240(brian) and he can look at it and probably have an idea of what is going on. he does a great job fixing things for VERY responsible prices too...and he involves you in the work if you want too so you can learn something.
yeah i was going to have him do some work on my car this weekened, but i will give hime a call thanks Justin, hay do you think i could have done the same thing as your car.
yes, yes you could. alot of guys are doing it now because they are figuring out that it really doesnt cost much more to throw in a 2.5 instead of a 2.0. tom would have a nice map for you if you were to go my route
ummm that maybe a possibilite, we will have to see what really went wrong with the car in the first place than go from there. that would be really nice though if i did go with the 2.5. what set up are you exactly running?
Funny story, but once driving my SHO I heard a bang like a grenade going off under the engine. The car even jumped when it happened. But in the few seconds after it happened, I realized the engine ran and sounded fine. Anyhow, I stopped and looked under the car in the middle of the night, in Iowa, with a half-dead flashlight, crawling around on the gravel. Nothing obvious, and nothing dripping. I restarted the car and drove back to civilization, whereupon with jacks and a jackstand I found out my throwout bearing had seized and shot some teeth out through the side of my tranny housing. Nothing else broke, and the car ran and drove fine, but it still cost me $600 for a used SHO transmission. Hopefully you'll be that lucky. My fingers are crossed!
ooh very nice. i might have to go that route. hay brian do you mind if i give you a call so i can get some advise from ya and talk about the timeing belt? thanks for the info guys, anythig else that maybe have gone wrong
i will let ya know around dinner. at college now but iam going home to figure this out in a while. hopefully i can figure it out. dont know exactly what i would be looking for, besides the avious thing but if i did find something i might not know what caused it. i will keep posting so you guys can help me out. thanks
I just took a look at the car and from a non-mechanic perspective everything look fine, oil was good, coolant was good, and nothing big seemed to be broken or out of place. now my question is what do i do next. i can drain the oil and see if there is crap in there, but waht else could i do. any advise would help. Ps: didn't look at the timeing belt because i didn't want to take a bunch of stuff off.
took another closer look at it this time. checked the oil and no chips of metal in it. Took of the cover of the right side of the tieming belt, everything looked intact and on the the trac, it didnt look like the teeth jumped or were out of place, it was not torn or shredded. no leeks under the car. and when i start it up it shacks really bad and the CEL flashes. did another over view of the engine as well and everything looks like normal. can any one point me in a good direction as of now. thanks
does it make a loud baning noise when its running.... or any ther noises for that matter that are out of the usual?
no, no unusuall noise. just runs really ruff and the CEL flashes. i havent drove it yet since the day i got it towed. except around the block to my garage. so basically no hard excel or boost. should i drive it and see what it does? would that be wise or not.
Have you checked the cel codes yet? You should be able to rent a scanner from an autoparts store if you don't have logging capabilities...
yeah i got a P0301 P0302 P0303 P0304, and then the P0300. so basically cylinder misfire's, I have had cylinder 2 and 4 for a while though. but those are what i got.
well they recomend, what like every 100,000 mile or so. i think i was told around 105,000 from some one. and as of now iam at 106,200.
