I am thinking about purchasing a piggyback for my 2004 WRX and wondering if anyone has some good feed back for me on what to purchase. I have been looking into the Turbo XS UTEC. Any thoughts:???:

    Thanks. :)

Are the mods in your sig your only ones? Will you be adding more? The answers will help determine what your best option is.

Cobb's Accessport. It's a reflash and you just flash it and forget it unlike the UTEC where you are constantly changing settings.

+1 for AccessPort if your mods are staying simple. -1 for AccessPort if your mods are going to become more complex.

Well, sort of. For now, the accessport would be a good starting point for you. If you do decide to add some other things like a different intercooler, turbo (other than the VF30 or 34), and injectors, you can upgrade your accessport to the accesstuner (similar to the UTEC) for another $400.

Here's a list of all the accessport maps currently available from Cobb.

First figure out what you want to do to your car. If you are looking to upgrade the turbo (even the deadbolt pnp) your best bet as of now is going to be a utec. The accessport is good for a flash and drive, but if you want to pull the power out of the car the utec is the way to go. You can also wait for the ecutek personal flash when that comes out, and that will give you the ability to flash the ecu and be able to do some mods that are a little different.

basically what i have gathered abotu utecs and APs is that with a utec the tuning is more intensive, and requires more work but you get what you put into it. in this subie sport article the saw 40whp gains on a 05 sti from a utec and invidia DP.

and with an AP or reflash teh ecu is more flexible to adjust, but isnt as fine tuned due to pre prgrammed maps.

please corrct me if i am wrong.

You are correct. The COBB 'cookie cutter' maps are good for almost all vehicles, but they aren't optimal for all vehicles. Jack of all trades, master of none. The Stage2 AP map from Cobb is pretty nice though. If you want more control and possibly more power with cleaner delivery, I would go with the UTEC. If you want something that will make your car pretty fast without having to worry about it, and you don't intend on doing too much to your car, get the AccessPort.
