Hey guys looking for a little help. I’m looking to swap my 2010 fozz motor that’s eating about a quart of oil per 100 miles, I found a decent donor but it’s California emissions which raises some concerns about an easy swap. Can anyone tell me if I’d run into any issues?
    Thanks in advance

Engine should mostly be the same, if you fine any emissions missing hoses just plug them up :)

So after reading the article of the pzev, looks like it could cause issues with the ECM if I’m dealing with different cats and injectors, at least I would assume this could cause issue. Thanks for the feedback

Shouldn’t you be able to tune that stuff out? I would think that they are just settings in the ECU

Been quite a while since I’ve had to tune an ECU, the money I’m saving going Cali emissions would probably be lost with the cost of the tune. 500$ish?

I’ll have to call around to some shops if that’s all it costs.I’ll do some dickering and get this forester healthy.

Contact JMA in Osseo. They’ll get it done for you.

The only major mechanical differences with a cali emissions engines were the '04-'05 EJ259, those are a completely different animal.

Best practice is always to swap the intake manifold with wiring/sensors, fuel rails and injectors, from your old motor to make sure that stuff all matches. You'll also want to pull the timing covers and check the crank and LH cam sprockets, as there are a few different trigger patterns on those sprockets for the sensors, might have to swap those over. The only thing that might really cause an issue is any EGR plumbing. Some of these motors (I do not know the pattern) have a valve on the intake manifold, and a pipe that goes down to the head. If your old motor has it, and replacement motor doesn't, you might not have the hole in the casting on the head.
