Depends on where the EWG connects to the uppipe I would imagine. And how the dumptube sits.

ewg work perfect on the Ultimate racing up-pipe that has a specially welded flange for either a bellmouth downpipe or single pipe(like stock kinda or the hks downpipe(thus so cheap). I like the tial 38mm's and 44mm's and seem to be the standard for EWG's but there are others out there, what kind of turbo??, most can get away with a 38mm especially if your not running a huge updrade

i believe a 38mm tial would work but don't quote me on that- get the right spring(I don't know what for a 20g):(

An EWG works the same way the integrated ones do on internally gated turbos. The only difference is that the internal wastegate diverts exhaust gas from the exhaust inlet to the downpipe via a hole in the turbo's exhaust housing and a solenoid to open and shut it, while an external gate usually taps off the uppipe itself and diverts the exhaust gases before the turbo exhaust housing inlet.
One of the benefits of an EWG is more precise wastegate control which can lead to better boost response and more control of boost throughout the rpm range. This is due partially to the size of the exit orifice allowing more gas to flow which I would imagine would allow more resolution if you used an electronic boost controller.

A 38mm TiAL should be fine, depending on the rest of your exhaust and whether or not its an open dump. If your exhaust if pretty free-flowing, your wastegate will be more effective than with an exhaust that has a lot of backpressure.

For reference, my buddy Derek is running a GT3076R with 38mm wastegate and its plumbed back into the exhaust. I think you'll be fine.

As far as spring goes, what do you want? A stiffer spring makes your boost control solenoid work less, so therefore you have higher resolution. If you want to run on just the wastegate, you're stuck with that boost level though. I'm using the .9 bar (13.x psi) spring myself, and am at 60% duty cylcle on a GM BCS to get 23psi.
