The car is seemingly running good, but every time I fill up the gas tank, I have to crank the engine for about 10 seconds before it will catch. After it starts I usually get CEL 301, but once I got both 301 and 303. I switched the coil packs between 1 and 3 a week ago, and I still get the misfires after filling up. And I get CEL 457 EVAP Leak randomly. The problem of not starting after filling up came out of the blue. I hadn't done any engine work or mods in the week before the trouble started. I did a compression test... cy1=140 cy3=147 cy2=147 cy4=155 I checked the charcoal canister in the back, the fuel pump lid seal, the purge valve, and every other little hose I could find under the hood. I was reading on Nasioc about getting a smoke test done on the EVAP system. Other suggestions? Would anybody be willing to look under my hood?
Oh yeah, the seals on the gas cap seem fine, and it's a 2005 WRX. Though would anybody be willing to trade me gas caps for a week to troubleshoot?
Are you topping off your gas when after it had clicked already? If so that could cause also cause that issue. Just top off to the nearest dollar amount. One more thing does the fuel cap bind when turning in, if it does you could have a bad cap or a bad fuel neck.
I've had this car for a year and half and never had the EVAP problem. The fuel cap does not bind, just clicks and slips once it's tight.
next time you fill up, push in on the cap really hard, you can get more turns out of it pressure is key
I tried not topping off the tank and pushing hard on the gas cap. Same thing as usual. I don't know if I'm capable of doing anything else. Should I go to a Subie dealership?
Sounds like you need to check if you have the electronic issue with the selinoid on the charcol canister.
I got an evap CEL on my '06 this summer. At the time, I did a little nasioc search, and it turned out that one of the evap system vacuum tubes in the engine bay had popped loose. I only thought to look for it because someone else had posted with the same issue on an '06, along with instructions on how to find said vacuum tube (it was up below/beside the alternator).
Are you talking about where the tubes connect to the purge valve? I've checked those and they're connected.
