Do people usualy say bless you to you? they never do for me, I think they hate me. I usualy wait a moment and then say very in a loud voice "don't worry, I'm ok" and then no one says anything... they so hate me...:emo:
usually someone just yells "go home before you get the rest of us sick." when someone starts sneezing at work.
Maybe they think that saying "bless you" is a religious statement...because it is. I never say it to anyone...ever
I never "bless" people when they sneeze, unless it is my wife then she sits there staring at me til I say it. I'm gonna make her start saying it when I fart and see how she feels then.
except why is it a blessing to someone when they sneeze.... maybe 8 quick ones in a row then they would need a tissue and a 'Oh God'
Bless you technically comes from the medieval age when they believed that when you sneeze you loose part of your soul. So saying bless you was like saying im sorry you lost a bit of your soul. Least thats what i remember hearing about. Now prove me wrong because i most likely am.
Milhouse: When you sneeze, that's your soul trying to escape. Saying "God Bless You" crams it back in.
I always figured it was something you earn; like respect. lol If people don't respect you, they don't say "bless you."
Luke is correct with the history of it, i believe it was even more specifically from the HRE during the Pope's raid on them
I dont say "bless you" Because i am not god... I cannot bless anyone.... So i say "god bless you" .... I dont like to play god. (dane cook)
thats what I'm getting at, no respect, they just hate me.... okay, I gues if they "hated" me they wouldn't just be silent, if they hated me this is what would happen... I'd sneeze, then I'd hear them whisper "was that david?" "yeah, I think it was" then they'd yell in in chores "go to hell David" I'd hang my head and cry...
Hey, normally I say "bless you" even though I'm not a very religious person. In your case I'd probably say "What's that annoying sound? Is someone talking?" Then I'd go on ignoring you like all the rest of your co-workers. Only because you brought it up in this thread though.
:hsugh: The "bless you" did arise from people thinking that when they sneeze their soul escapes. And by saying bless you it does get crammed back into your body! I think I just say it out of habbit. Not because I'm trying to save somebody's soul!
