I(we) have NationWide as our auto insurance and this months bill was higher then usual. I called the insurance company to ask why its so high and the lady told me eversince July 15, economical stuff changes and "everybody's" policy is bumped up. Well, bumped up $100/mo. is not small. Usually we pay about $330/mo, now is $430/mo(3 cars). That kills... Did anybody else's Auto Insurance went up starting this month? or its time for me to go shopping for Auto Insurance?
It's different from company to company. Typically once a year their actuaries will do an "unlocking" process where they update their assumptions in their models to include another year's worth of experience. This is done to more closely align what they are projecting what will happen to what actually does happen. Then after their models are updated, they will often re-run their models and re-price their products -- sometimes premiums will go up, and sometimes they will go down. With auto insurance, you can pretty much bet it will always increase due to cars getting more expensive and medical costs increasing.
Solution When i bought the wgn, my insurance went up to $140 for two cars per month. I got a quote from unitrin for, i think, 96 a month. I called to cancel progressive and I ended up staying with progressive because they gave me a price similiar to that. SO.. find some quotes and call them, you may get it lowered. It may not be $100, but could be less than what your paying now...OR you can call geico JK.
Oh yeah, that reminds me, I have to raise holy hell with progressive soon about how much they are charging me.
Just a little background: Government Employee's Insurance Company. If you aren't a Government employee, you get the crappy rate.
I was expecting mine to drop a bit (car getting older / me getting older) but it stayed level. I guess this might be why.
All it really takes is a phone call telling them that you are considering a competitor if you can't get a lower rate. This worked with GEICO anyway and they dropped my insurance by 40 bucks a month. Not even a tank of gas but it was still worth the call imo.
I no longer work for the government, but I did. And it isn't like they are going to bounce your rates just because you changed jobs.
fondune, is USAA pretty cheap? I'm getting a pretty decent rate from Allstate, and have been happy with their service in the past...but obviously a cheaper rate helps. They're kicking me down another 50 bucks a month when I hit the 21 mark this november, so I dont want to burn any bridges unless I find something much better.
Yeah, USAA is a sweet deal. We have all of our cars insured through them, and I'm financing my wrx through them as well. Customer service is really helpful, and their website is easy to use.
Liberty-Mutual FTMFW. Plus, when I got in an accident last summer(passenger), they worked quickly and efficiently to get everything handled. In the end, they covered the $11,000 in medical bills and helped my friend Chris(driver) get a new car within 2 weeks. Breakdown: Mom: $76/month - no tickets, ever. Brother: $120/month - 5 tickets, 1 accident Me: $22/month - 1 ticket, no accidents $218/month total. =]
I state that it feel like it feel like it seem like when i can has insurance payment, it only come on the 1th of the months
Met Life pulled this one on me once...so I left. They claimed that everyone in the state had in increase of 15%...BS. That was on top of an increase 6mo prior because my car was at the end of the 2 model year adjustment period so they raised it >15%. I had a total increase of just about 40% in 18mo without one ticket! I went to Progressive since they offered me insurance at ~50% of what I was paying. I now have the STi, RS (bare minimum), and FX all insured for 60% of what I was paying at Progressive <2 years ago for just the STi! Cliff notes: shop around
mine dropped 40 a month when I moved up north, then when we moved back it went up 20. I have not seen the new paper work yet but it is in the pile of paper work to go through.
About the same. No more 600. I pay $160 a month for 4 cars and a motorcycle, full coverage on one car and the motorcycle.
