I purchased a used aftermarket up pipe for cheap, and a new wastegate, then had Fobia weld it up for me. I am 110% happy with it :)

I am only running the vf39, and it provided a good kick in the pants.

I'm running their 38mm setup on my car. I love it, looks awesome... really loud!

and EWG is a very good option to allow the setup to breath some and get more power with more tuning. Did you want to know how loud it is???

Loud is optional. You can always get it routed back into the dp for a stealthier approach.

I was hoping it's not too loud. Don't really want to rerout it back to dp. The reason I was going with GS is because of their IWG bracket and I don't have to weld my IWG shut.

Just want faster spool and better boost response. I could run 17psi and make same topend power as with 18.5psi.

Ron tuned it last summer. 300whp/312tq at 20psi but I droped it to 18psi for daily use and pump gas. I was thinking going EWG and maybe later to E85.

The GS is pretty loud when its open (when u boost hard), otherwise its the same as it was before u had the u-p ewg setup(when its not venting/closed), maybe a little louder if ur going from a catted u-p. I love mine... I also like being noisy! When i did mine along with my ebcs i noticed a pretty large difference in power and response. Definitely recommended, but its pretty hard to do (I didnt install it). Also, like I said, the GS unit is awesome, it looks awesome and its really high quality. If ur looking to stay quiet though, look into routing it into the dp. Either way, it will put a smile on ur face!

    BTW
I have a GS wastegate bracket for a vf39 if anyones interested PM

Thanks Bora28, I will have to think about it little more before I decide on doing it.

Yeah, if you're thinking about the same one as Bora has, it's going to be loud as hell when you're on the throttle. EWG's in general are quite loud as they're basically making it so your turbo vents directly to atmosphere. So, be prepared for that.

Psssht. I run 23 PSI max daily on my 06 WRX and it's performing well. The mitsu turbos are made to run high boost. Extra peak boost isn't going to get you much topend, but will certainly get you more torques.

Also, keep in mind that if you go this route you'll also need to purchase the actual wastegate, as well as the piping kit you posted in your OP.

I looked under my car today to see how hard it would be to install one of these and it looks like tight fit. I am afraid the dump pipe would be too close to axle boot. I also youtubed some video clips of EWG on WRX and it sure sounds pretty loud. I think I would stay with IWG for now. Maybe go E85 for some extra torque instead :)

It is LOUD when vented to atmosphere...but if you really want to make it open up, you gotta use some WOT, and at that point (with your aftermarket exhaust?), do you really care if you are making some noise? ;)

Do it...route it back into exhaust if you must.

External wastegate + tunnels/bridges/parking garages = no hearing left....... at least in my 240.

Is there a large disadvantage to routing it to the down pipe?

Atmospherically-dumped wastegates sound like you are farting through a straw at 140 dB. Actually, my ass produces better sounding flatulence than a wastegate does.

I remember my old GSX... Man that thing was loud. 38mm EWG with 16" dump tube straight down. Damn that thing was loud. Like a scared banshee being murdered. It was normal for me, but scared the $**t out of anyone walking on the street. It all depends on how you customize it. My buddy had his plumbed back into the DP. Wasn't very loud at all.

EWG dump on small turbo's sounds like crap IMO. Recirculate it.

    Mitsu Turbo's FTW. :)

I was just being a smartass.

However, larger snails with proper piping can produce the same spool characteristics with much more capability.

I've got a GS EWG uppipe and it sounds ok. I've heard it from outside of the car while it was being dyno'ed at MAP. Not something to write home about, but ok. One of the folks there, made a comment that he thought it sounded good. Not too bad in the car either.

I did it, because I'm using stock cans for maximum stealth/sleeper effect and I wanted to offset this restriction by allowing the exhaust from the wastegate to vent to the atmosphere.

EWG was not an option for me so I went with E85, thanks to Nuke, and now have to hold on to my wheel with both hands :). Car feels awsome and pulls very hard and I average 16mpg.

I didn't ask for graph but Nuke said in the neighborhood of 360whp/400tq.
