OK I have an 04 Sti Invidia DP, and Espiler (SP?) cat-back with a test pipe. The Wife wants me to quiet it down some, would a highflow cat help any? or a resinator or something, I don't want to lose any power, but tone it down a bit...I tried searching but couldn't find any answers.
I was looking at Magnaflow round mufflers to put in the midpipe. MOST quiet catback systems out there come with a resonator in the midpipe and they all are quieter than the catbacks w/o resonators. Perrin makes a catback w/ resonator and splits after the resonator and into a oval muffler. Seems to be a good way to quiet it down but it's quite costy.
Just looked at exhaust...there is a resinator, I believe it's a cat delete DP maybe I just need a silencer for the muffler...anyone know if you can buy them?
I have a silencer insert sitting in my shop office.. some honda ricer left it... hahah a why buy or have a nice exhaust just to add a silencer.. kinda defeats teh purpose if you ask me.... any ways.. swing by the shop and see if it fits.. if so its yours...
Borla XS muffler, one of the quietest I'm aware of. If you want something quiet for daily driving but want some noise when you wind it up, look at Hooker Maxiumum Flow. Findings in my own search of exhaust hardware: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1089089 As for direct fit stuff, most people seem to say the greddy Evo2 catback is one of the quietest. A cat will help quiet, a resonator will help quiet(most basic form of muffler), smaller piping will help quiet, a quiet muffler will help quiet. I'd suggest going the muffler route first, just something more tame but still with great flow.
look at the mad dad ssp stuff. iirc he does a catback w/resonator and flex section. make sure you order something with a full 3" flat flange. you could also tell the wife to get over it, but i'm the last guy you want to take marital advice from.. :/
I think Im going with just trying a silencer. that way if it has any performance loss it's just one bolt for when I want it out.
