http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/20...ne-debuts-start-dreaming-about-a-boosted-brz/ Don't think the WRX/STi is going electric just yet.
Excited to hear about a turbo model. Still depressed that Subaru/FHI is in bed with Toyota.*tear* I know that Yota is a decent car company, but the new body designs really reflect their influence on our cherished brand. Toyota, gtfo.
Toyota does not do the styling for Subaru....with the exception of the BRZ. 16% ownership of FHI does not constitute enough for Toyota to get involved with Subaru designing and engineering. Remember before Toyota GM had a larger stake, and before that Nissan had just as large of a stake in FHI, yet neither of those designed Subaru, GM only bought the WRX wagon for Saab. I'm am pretty sure Toyota is not involved. Cheers!
Yeah, exactly this. The Toyota partnership added Camry production to the SIA facility in Indiana. And the BRZ/FR-S was a co-opt project. If anything, Toyota needed a sporty coupe in their line up again, since they are more focused on boring appliance vehicles, why not have Subaru develop it, put Subaru's motor and transmission in it, and have them develop the sporty suspension....then simply give it a big, ricey front snow plow bumper and slap a Scion badge on it. Subaru gets to push the models out the door under two different brand names, both companies reap the rewards. Pull the window switches in your 02-05 Subaru Impreza. All of mine said "Nissan" on them.
Maybe so, it could have been coincidence that the cars started looking alike right around the same time that Toyota got in, but i've never seen the Impreza line look this aweful in 10yrs. And we've been calling Pete's Legacy, the Camry since the day that he got it. lol And the grills on the Impreza and Corolla were nearly identical up until they blacked out the chrome piece in the center of it. Jus sayin...
Similar, but not the same. Subaru has its own design team. They are making their cars more boring to appeal to more people. Aggressive front end styling doesn't sell more cars.
Agreed. Not exact...but it just seemed that after i heard that Toyota had picked up a percentage of FHI, i saw the 08 models take a drastic turn. I also understand that other companies have owned a % of FHI, but it seems that Toyota(having the reputation that they have), has influenced the FHI designers a little more than others have in the past. After years of the same/similar design. Coincidence i guess. Back on topic tho, electric turbo sounds interesting. I thought that turbos are already expensive, wonder what they'll be like costwise if they go electric?
Doesn't sound like they're going electric hybrid turbo yet. 295hp DI 2.0t... sooooo laggy enough to score high on EPA tests (out of boost). Should sell well in the cvt legacy that the article mentions.
I know that...i'm sayin when it does make it to the wrx/sti platform. I'm guessing that getting a bigger 18-20g hybrid in electric form will be a 'bank breaker'.
Head on over to legacygt.com. The only thing more prolific than previous generation owners trolling the new legacy saying it looks exactly like a camry is the generation before that trolling last gen owners for looking exactly like the camry of the same year. They all look the same at any given time because they're all pandering to whatever style people like at the time. It's not a coincidence or a conspiracy. The Impreza tends to end up looking like the previous generation Legacy on downs. That's just how it goes.
Pulled my door panels on my 2011 and they all say Nissan I have seen alot of the new impreza and toyota prius V Look to much like one another for my taste
While we are on the topic... The 5EAT is made by the same people who make all of Nissan's Transmission....And the forester uses a Mitsubishi Turbo.... Ok i'll stop. On topic however i believe this new legacy delivers it's full power/torque very low in the rev ranges, So I don't think it will be super laggy. Has an extremely flat torque band too.
