I was looking around on other sites for simple diy mods for the xt and i found a few people that threw in some mesh on the grille and i thought it cleaned up the front end of the 04-05's a lot so here are some pics, before, middle, and after... i gotta find some grommets that will help hold the subaru emblem in place and i will probably picking up an sti grille badge at some point. there the last 2 like in post #8 are the finished so people don't have to look around
COLOR MATCH!!! and cut the mesh better so u get rid of that gap on the corner. definetly cleans it up tho, not too ricey one u paint it... looks good thats my .02
I agree that color matching it and putting a badge in the center will make it look even better. Always cool to see DIY projects like this.
i like the open fog lights, but my brother and I are going to fab up a light bar to throw at least 2 more driving lights on... i haven't decided if i will go with the smoked lenses or ones with the lil plastic guards on them and spray those black to match... all in good time though thanks everyone though for the comments
at first I was not liking it.. but with the emblem put back on that thing looks really nice.... great job...
here is one of the links i looked into for the idea, and oddly enough that guy has a cayenne red xt that looks sick with the grille mod... so in your case i'd say do it cuz it'll take your xt right to dead sexy, and like i said in the first post i think it just cleans the front end up nicer then the bars.... http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f80/another-grill-mod-sg-1039/ as far as a write up i followed none.... i looked at what others did and with the help of Lee's (blackozone) dremmel, i went to town.... it all and all took about an hour tops to figure out where i wanted to cut it, mask it off, actually cut it, clean it up and put the mesh in....
Lookin good! Makes me miss my toaster, but I have another fun car to drive now so it's not all bad. Jason, we need to datalog that thing and make sure it's up to snuff for stock, and then we can play a bit and maybe do a 'stage 1' tune. Find a downpipe and we can really have some fun. -Steve
i work at a parts store... and had a guy special order a grill insert for an explorer about 2 years ago... he decided he didn't want it, so it sat on the shelf at 75% off for that long and the other day i looked at it and said what the hell... 10 bucks and an hour later, there you have it. alot of guys i've read picked mesh up at lowe's or home depot, some from a metal yard and others off ebay or other sites
yes yes yes!!!!! minimum i need to clean it up in stock form... dp might will probably be in the spring
