I was driving about 30 mph in a 40 mph zone. 4 lane city street, in the left lane. Snowing and slippery. SUV in the right lane decides to simply make a left hand turn directly in front of me. Woman driver from Minnesota. I was unable to avoid her, tore her bumper off and did some damage to my right front quarter panel. I'm just glad I didn't hit the drivers side as it would have probably done damage to the FMIC plumbing.

I called the police, an accident report was filed and I need to wait until monday to find out what's up. Thank God no one was hurt, just some sheet metal & plastic. I somehow ended up with a flat tire out of the accident. I like my car, and was pretty much up in her face asking why the hell she thought she could take a left hand turn from the right hand lane, and there was no street for her to turn onto. She said it's snowing, you drive a white car, etc. I asked if she didn't see my HID headlights in her mirror before making her illegal turn - my guess is that she probably didn't even look...

I saw tooooo many of those types of accidents last night. It seems like the first snow of the year everyone has to learn how to drive again. There should be more emphasis on idiot drivers. Minnesota's No Fault law is killing the ones that know how to drive and enabling all the idiots.

yep, in my 10 mile round trip yesterday, I saw 6 people in the ditch and atleast a dozen people run red lights. Most didn't even attempt to stop and you know sure as hell that if they ever got stopped they will just blame the slippery streets for them not being able to stop. Even at my stop, someone was complaining about how bad the roads were and the city needed to really start getting the salt trucks out, of course he was completely ignoring the facts that his tires were well into the wear bars.

Ouch, there were too many of these people out that night. Seriously these people have no common sense. I was cut off several times without a blinker then they would proceed slam on their brakes. Hopefully she admitted fault and you'll have your car repaired soon.

After 911, call 411-PAIN! haha, just kidding. (I hate their commercials)
The residential streets in St. Paul are the worst right now. They're glare ice! I've skidded past my garage door every time I came home. I just keep sliding for 10+ feet--even from a 5 mph crawl.

John, that really sucks. I almost had some jackwagon spin into me on 694 while he was trying to light a cigarette on Saturday afternoon and it wasn't even that bad out yet.

I said it in a different thread, but it's painful how few people in this area actually are properly equipped for weather like this. I still think that snow tires should be mandatory on all vehicles from November-April/May. The dillholes running around on summer tires or bald all seasons should be charged with attempted murder if they hit someone in conditions like these because they're just asking to get into an accident.

As much as I am 100% behind this, you know that no one (the cops) will ever check. Hell, if the cops just checked and gave out tickets for bald tires like they can, people might think twice about running around on bald tires. The cops also need to take the initiative and start handing out the tickets for faulty equipment.

And the alternative to going back to vehicle inspections isn't much better. It would be great if people had enough personal responsibility to actually look out for both their safety and others, but that's not going to happen.

On the bright side, it's job security for me.

    Sigh.

    only issue with this part...

no cats, tint, no front plate, exhausts, HIDs, etc etc would all be fair game more so than they are now....

I agree though because in Australia where I was from they didnt do roadworthy inspections, but they did hand out tickets for bald tires etc.... (they would do random testing for alcohol and then a once over your car)

But is it really random when half the cars on the road are operated by drunk drivers? ;)

Yep, and I fully understand that, but that also gives me the same mindset as everyone else. I choose to install a catless exhaust because I know that there is next to no chance of ever getting a ticket for it. I choose to install the HIDS because there is next to no chance of getting a ticket for those either. The mindset I have for those items is also the same mindset that people have for safety items that need to be fixed/replaced. How many sets of bad brakes drove out of your shop when you had it, because the owners didn't care?

My insurance adjuster came out yesterday, first estimate is just over $3k. I'm now waiting on her insurance company to get fully engaged.
