whew, just got back from a spin...passing tow trucks is fun.

however, I discovered first problem with my mud flaps...snow gets caught behind them and restricts how far you can the wheel...not good!

Just a reminder to be careful pit there! Those less fortunate to not be in Subarus are having issues:) 16 vehicles in ditchs or against guardrails from St. Michael to Oakdale.

I bet we got at least 6-8 inches up here in St.Francis, it's really wet and heavy. Went to stock up the bar for tonight and saw 5 cars in the ditch in a 5 mile stretch.

We got around 4" in Hudson. Haven't been out in it yet, but you can be assured that there will be some awd drifting today. :)

Went to Northern Tool early this morning only to find the parts & service department is only open 8 to 5 Monday through Friday (snowblower issues, what else). Roads suck arse. Was out for over an hour and saw exactly zero MNDOT trucks. As the idiot drivers get going later in the day it is going to be a mess. So glad I'm not going anywhere until Monday. Good luck to those that do have to venture out.

Wish I had swapped my tires out last night. Slowly slid into a truck at a stop-light (no damage) and then while trying to make room for merging traffic, I ended up sliding back across towards them until I finally stopped on the shoulder. Wouldn't be driving without snows, except I had to work today. There was a big F-350 dualie facing the opposite direction, against the center wall on 100, and a cop racing out to help or something nearly collided with him.

Damn, sorry to hear that. At least there wasn't any damage!

I didn't make it far without bumping a curb...wasn't even out of my apartment complex. Then on my way back...I start sliding toward curb...try to turn left...due to mudflap issue...wouldn't turn left...slide onto the curb, nose first. no damage :)

rain here down the hill in Duluth.

went up to Sam's club, about 3 blocks up the hill from my house it turned to snow. Blizzaks on the celica do pretty damn well. Good night to be delivering pizzas!

:needpics: seriously, and apparently when you put your winter tires on it keeps the snow away. I put mine on two weeks ago, looks like it will be a while before we get any snow up here:mad:

I'm glad I got my snow tires on. We have at least 6" in Columbia Heights.

I've seen no less than 5 people get stuck going up the hill directly in front of my house!

I doubt there will be any coordinated snow mayhem for this. First pass digs down to the pavement, making it suck for everyone else that goes after you.

Yeah, right now the roads are entirely too warm as is the ground temperature. Keeping the snow consistant and thick on the pavement is going to take a few weeks to get down to the right temp. Then you can go attack parking lots

yea all i gave to say is need to flash my winter map. 320wht+snow+open diff=fail. almost lost it when i gave it a little gas to give someone room to merge in behind me. 40 sliding sideways down the freeway is not a fun feeling. saved it luckly though.

damn! first winter in my 09 STi....going thru the drive-thru and slid around the corner amd was about 10' away from the window : / ...akward....seems like they slide in tight turns, and once it starts sliding at such low speeds theres not much u can do :(

to some extent fwd is better than awd cuz there isnt too much back end sliding like in an awd with no traction.so basically awd is less controllable with out snow tires even unlike a fwd...discuss

Exactly this. I've owned a Nissan Altima that was FWD and oddly tail-happy at times when you'd least expect it. In the snow at least. And I almost lost it on the freeway on Friday in my work van, a Dodge Caravan 2009 model. Hit a patch and the backend started to wash, and it kept washing, and I had to countersteer a few times to get it back under control.

The problem with AWD is the same for all cars, abrupt throttle and abrupt braking on snow will cause it to act just like any other car. Under consistant light throttle this usually isn't the issue, the problem seems bigger when you jam on the brakes or throttle because it has so much grip normally that the lack of it seems out of character.

AWD isn't the end all driving component for winter weather, and alot of people sometimes seem to think that it is. Physics still applies to Subarus.

^^ I agree with you - that some people will think AWD is the end of all in winter weather. If someone hears that you drive an a AWD or 4WD...they tend to think its all easy that the car does everything for you in terms of driving. Probably thats is why most SUV's and trucks end up in ditches or spinning around. Does any of you put sand in the back of your Subaru's as a means to have added weight in order to gain more traction...and does it really work despite what kind of tires you have snow/all seasons?

I managed to drive all over with my RE11's yesterday. If cars were present, I was cautious. When I was in Minneapolis, there was almost no one out... I really like drifting down 4th ave. :D
