    Hi All,

Just bought my first Subaru, 2006 Impreza Hatchback 2.5l.

I will most likely be posting/searching through the forums for really basic info. Unfortunately I am a complete idiot as far as auto maintenance goes so expect a lot of beginner/dumb questions to come out of this account =D

Take care and glad to have found a local board,

    Jason

ps - have spark plugs coming up in a few thousand miles, already saw some conversation about how the recommended plugs really aren't the best for the car. Turn in Concepts seems to be a preferred vendor to some? Here's what I found on their site for my ride: http://turninconcepts.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_9_10_1357_1430_1494&products_id=1070

That the right way to go? or OEM parts?

Welcome to Mnsubaru and grats on the new car! Post up some pics of the new ride. I would recommend OEM spark plugs for the car. Normally with Subaru's you can't go wrong with OEM stuff when it comes to maintenance. If you are at the point that you need plugs you should also do your rear diff fluid and trany fluid as well.

    3.7 Qt
    32.5 ft-lb / 44 N-m
replaced at 31k car now sits at 87k

    Rear Diff -
AMSOIL FGR Long Life Synthetic Gear Lube 75W-90 API GL-5 (100,000 miles)
    .8 Qt
    32.6 ft-lb / 49 N-m
replaced at 31k as well, 87k currently on car

    Thanks for the insights.

    Welcome!

Warning, these things are ADDICTING. I have a stock pile of Subaru parts, most I don't even need, but thought "Hey, I might need that sometime".

Welcome to the site. I would suggest swapping the car back to Extra S next time you do the transmission and diff. You can buy it from Morries or NF sells it as well.

+1 for the OEM spark plugs.

Edit... reading your miles, I would swap the fluid now. 54k is a long time to go.

    Hey ofspunk,

Thanks for the tip. You still think with 50k left I'm better off going with the Extra S though? I googled it and on the nasioc forum they listed a good vendor for the stuff as Fred Beans Parts: http://www.fredbeansparts.com/index.php/subaru-75w90-extra-s-gear-and-transmission-quart-bottle.html

I'll have to bring it in for some work and spark plugs in 3k, might be a time to do it then I suppose.

General reply to all others, thanks for the welcome :)

You can get a better deal on the fluid locally. You can also save some money on the work locally... taking it somewhere like NF.
