everything fits but the rears rub on the outer metal when hitting big duluth sized bumps, would rolling these help or is there anyother options?
it isn't lowered right now, the wheels are from an s4 so they don't fit quite right but I would like to make them work because they look friggin hot
I put 245/45/17's on my '06. They only rubbed in the rear, and only during hard cornering (autox). From the grooves on the sidewalls, it's pretty clear that rolling the rear fender lip up should fix the rub. They may get rolled this week sometime, I'll let you know how it goes.
I rolled a GC out to fit 245's. It looks good and fit with 0 camber. So yes, rolling will make these fit.
I got 235/35/19s on my 03... heard a couple of rubs with all the kids going around a dipping corner like twice... rolling your fenders and adding alittle camber would help for sure....
I'm not sure of the offset and finding out would require me to lift a stack of 4 pink wheels/tires off off the stack off 4 oz wheels/tires which happen to sit on one broke ass foose rim. is fender rolling something I could do myself or will most body shops know what I'm talking about when I ask them to do it?
no, my sister drove the car when he first got wheels and curbed one to the point of no return so he just got one new one
Heres the thing though... you don't WANT 245/45-17s on a WRX. it throws the gearing off HORRIBLY. trust me... switching from a 45 to a 40 made the car feel soo much faster. with the 45's it'll feel sluggish and boggy. your corner grip will be there, but it won't accelerate out of the corners like you want. The only exception to the above is the STIs... where it matches up to the gearing a little better, and possibly the 06-07s with their diffrent gearing... haven't seen much info on how they land in their powerbands at what speed. So, if you want a 245 wide tire, look into something in a 245/40-17. it's much closer to the stock tire size. unfortunately, falken doesn't make them... so the next best thing is a 235/40-17, which will give you better acceleration than stock, but your speedo will read too fast, and your top speed in each gear will be slightly less.
Yeah, the 245/45's are still quite a bit larger. I'm buying 235/40/17 or 245/40/17's for my next set (depending on who stocks what size), they're both hardly different the the stock 215/45/17's.
Shane, not everyone is completely performance oriented as you are. Looks play a huge factor as well to some. Me, I want a good blend of both.
I'm not really worried about the speed because they aren't going to be used for auto x or anything and I would NEVER buy anything less than a 45 sidewall for daily driving. keep in mind I live in duluth and the roads suck balls here
1. a sidewall height is completely dependent upon the with of the tire. a 245/40-17 tire has the same sidewall height as a 225/45-17. saying a sidewall series is not a good way to measure the side-wall height of a tire. 2. you were worried about your brakes fading in the FS thread? you'll have a much bigger problem with that if your running a 245/45-17. the larger outer diameter than the stock size will give the tire more leverage over the brake system. understand? no? Let me put it this way: try and grab a screw driver by the shank and remove a screw. really hard isn't it? now try to use that same screw driver to remove that same screw by grabbing the handle. a lot easier isn't it? it's because you have more leverage. This is the same way that a big brake kit works. by moving the caliper further out on the rotating surface, it has more leverage. Trust me. in a WRX, you'll gain NOTHING by going with a 245/45-17. i had a set, i thought it was great, 'till i switched back to a size that is closer to stock. it stops better, it brakes better. I'm not making that mistake again.
