I'm looking for a new jack. My buddy has one that will lift the car way up in the air with only two or three pumps, but he can't remember where he got it.

Anyone have a brand or style that works like this?

I know I can go to checkers, sams club, etc...

looking for specific brands or types that people on here use and love.

(I need to get one that is low profile too)

I have one of those nifty Craftsmen racing ones. It was sweet until it started pissing hydraulic fluid. Now I have to figure out how to fix it.

I have the Roush Racing one from Sam's Club. It's all steel instead of aluminum, so it weighs a ton. But it's big and pretty fast, three pumps to get the tires off the ground. The only complaint I have about it is that the handle is pretty long so it takes a lot of room to use. So far it's been low profile enough for me. It gets under my car just fine and fit under my friend's lowered Acura, but I know other floor jacks are lower profile than this one.

chances are the o ring that seals the hydraulic cylinder has torn (this happened to me on a hydraulic jack I had). easy to replace but I could never get it to work 100% right again (bled the system like 6 times but still seemed to have an air pocket somewhere)

I hear this about Craftsman jacks all the time.

I've got one of the Harbor Freight Aluminum racing ones, it's OK, and has held up pretty well, but takes a lot of work to get the car up high. I haul it around for RallyCross and rally, so weight was an issue.

I've been tempted to pick up the 3.5 ton one that Checker's had for sale for like $90 recently. It gets down pretty low and up high enough for truck & suv work.

I have the Craftsman Racing Aluminum jack. It has worked well for me, since I change my wheels twice on AutoX weekends. It has a long handle, and on the Subaru it takes a couple of small pumps to get it high enough to start swinging on it to get the car lifting. It is also a tad too light, so it tends to lift up when you push down until it opens enough to contact the car.

There may be better options, but this one has been OK by me.

    Stuart.

I bought a jack last year. I wanted a very low profile jack that was rated for 3 tons and I didn't want to spend the money on an aluminum jack because this will just be used in my garage. I also like a hefty handle because its a handy cheater bar. i usually lift a car with a 2x6 and then I can slide a jack stand next to the jack and move to another corner. It's no lift but it works well. With a regular jack on a lowered car you can never get a block of wood between the car and the jack.

I went with a Torin from Northern Tool. Torin makes some decent stuff I think. It's been a great jack.

But to answer your question, its not the fastest jack in the world.

+1 on the HF Aluminum Jack... I have had it for ~2.5yrs with no issues. However, that is not always the case with HF, so beware.

My folks bought me a jack made by Michelin about 5 years ago. It is extremely heavy, but fits under most cars fairly easily - but the handle is long. It has worked well, but now seems to be having problems - I need to check the oil level tonight.

I believe it was pretty darn cheap, but I'm not sure where they got it.

Yeah, that Michelin jack actually looks very similar to the Roush one I got at Sam's.

    Sams club was my guess.

Have any of you guys had trouble with the jack "catching" to lift something? Once mine "catches" it's just fine, but I thought maybe it was low on oil.

    Thoughts?

My in-laws bought me this jack as well. As long as your car isn't SUPER low, you shouldn't have clearance issues.

(i still have to use a ****ty checkers jack to raise the car up enough to get this one under there.)

My Craftsman pissed itself after a couple years, Sears service dept. said it couldn't be repaired. I did manage to get them to replace it though.

I don't know what Sam's Club carries, but Costco has an aluminum one, may be the same as Harbor Freight. IMHO even if you are just pulling it around in the garage the aluminum ones are sooo much nicer to work with than the steel ones.

I have a heavy duty jack form sears, and the only problem that I have is that it is not low enough to lift my miata without first lifting my miata onto the jack, the miata is lowered a little over an inch. goes to the vheicle in one pump and goes nice and high! I could take pictures if you like, just like the one that EP sears has. below is the picture from the sears website. BTW I beleive that I have had this jack for about 5 years
