Can anyone recommend a good shop that does flywheel resurfacing? I bought an extra flywheel for $20 and want to have it resurfaced so when I replace my clutch soon it's ready to drop in. Thanks, Joel
Typically Subaru flywheels can't be resurfaced. They're a "dual layer" material, and we've never been able to do it. If it can be done, I haven't seen a place that can. I'd call any clutch shops around and see if they'd be able to do it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.
^^Mine was! Welllll, earlier this year they did. Napa on 7th street and Arcade avenue in Saint Paul had an in-house machine shop. They did my old GC Impreza's flywheel for $40. I called them this week for rotors and they just got rid of their machine shop.
you must grossly mis-informed...we (MTK) resurface flywheels like 2 times a day! napa used to do it for us, not anymore, we actually have about 4 resurfaced flywheels back in parts...so you are grossly mis-informed. or your shop is way overcharging for no reason.
Yeah, I checked the Napa on Central and they don't do it either. Do all places grind the flywheel, or do they turn in on a lathe? If it's ok to turn it on a lathe I think I'll just go use my dad's lathe. It'll take a while, but I don't have to take much material off, just touch it up...
Okay guys here's where we now go because Napa is getting out of the machining business! Call D&G Motors (I think there in St.Louis Park) @952-746-0174 or online @ DGMOTORS.biz
I don't think we've ever resurfaced a flywheel. I don't remember us doing it, anyway. Either it's still good or it gets replaced AFAIK.
