this is prolly a stupid one.... but do you need to tune for a fmic? what are the dangers of running without tuning for it? I'm also look to achieve about 400whp daily driver. on the list is fuel pump injectors intercooler. green or 20g ((keep flopping back and forth over which one will fit, run smoother... looking for a quicker spool time) and of corse the main tune as advice from riders who have gone this route is apreciated. I have heard turbox fmic will allow me to keep stock fogs, but what about the spt intake? and what other mods would I be looking at for this type of setup?
a tune would be definately needed. You'd need a different BPV as well. Correct me if I'm wrong. Not too sti literate. You'd get quicker spool with an aftermarket topmount like the APS unit. Quicker spool would happen if you coated and wrapped your exhaust and turbo as well. A FMIC for a daily driver might be a little over kill. I have a 20G on my 2.0 with the APS TMIC and it spools at 34-3600. With a 2.5 it would be quicker. I'm not sure if you would hit 400whp with a 20g either. You may require some race gas for 400whp and a 20g. You'd probably want to get a perrin big MAF as well instead of the spt intake. The intake would depend on which fmic you got i think. I would go APS since they allow the fogs to remain as well. But tha's just me I'm sure someone more "in tune" with the sti's can help ya more. I'm just bored and thought I'd put in my $.02. good luck, - jfk
Depending on the dyno, the 20G or Green wont get your 400whp on the local Mustang. I hit 350whp with 110 and Rich put down around 390 with a 50 trim on 110 and meth injection. Ide look into a Perrin GT30R or 35R kit if you want 400+ whp. And you should always get a tune when adding more performance parts. If you dont, tick tock tick tock.
just as a guess. how many miles to the tank do you get now with your pump, injectors and 20g ? I don't NEED 400whp... but fast as hell would be a nice goal
If you are looking for max power on pump gas the a 20g would be a better choice. Although in the end you'll net maybe 20-30hp more then a protune stocker. Nasioc has a few good threads going on about it.
This makes no sense. If you are looking for max power on pump gas, you'll go 35R as I've seen some of these setups making 400whp on pump gas. A 20G will be closer to 315 on pump gas.
i agree that the 20g is a nice choice...but in no way is it only 20-30 more hp then a protune stock...look at mlgez's hp, with a protune and injectors
20-30hp more then a protuned stage 2. mlgez's car seems like a bad example to use for that though. His car didn't take to the parts like most STi's do and if anything would help make my point. The real issue is getting much past 300hp on pump gas is going to require a fair amount of $$$.
The thing that you have to remember about Mlgez's car is that it was also tuned by DB. That is not to be a knock on DB, but I am willing to bet that if a subaru tuner jumped into his car, there would be a fair amount of power found. There are definitly going to be little things that a subaru tuner will see over someone that doesn't tune subies 10 hours a day. As for 400whp, are you talking on pump or 110?? 400 on pump is a BIG step. Fobia might be in that area. Pump gas has alot of limiting factors, so power on pump is tough to get. A 20g/green will not get you anywhere even close to that. I am not sure that a 20g/green will get you to 400 on 110. My advice to you is to save your money. Once spring rolls around and everyone starts driving their cars again, go for some rides. We have members with 20g's (tmic and fmic) and we have a couple of different 35r's. I am sure that there are other variations that will be rolling this summer. See what you like, and what you can live with as far as power vs spool. Russ
pump gas - 91 / 92 oct. daily driver.... quicker spool would be nice. also looking into rotated mounts. the only sad thing I guess would mean I would lose my pretty v3 divorced.... I wish ksal would chime in he's got the rotated I was looking into.
Well ive had my setup for almost a year now and love it. It's completly different animal compared to a 20G STi. It doesnt spool as fast, but once it does HOLD ON. 1st gear is pretty much useless, dont get much boost but 1st wines out fast anyways. I would recommened doing some forged pistons atleast if your going to be pushing that kind of power. A new clutch will be in order as well, the stock cant take that kind of tq. I personally dont daily drive the car, but I think it has very daily usable power. Also, with this kind of setup expect to spend more $ in general maintenance and up keep of the car. That being said, I wouldnt trade it for anything
how do you use your car? and what are the main differences are you noticing from the 20g - this aside from spool? I'm not looking for insain, just a good hard fast pull above stock.... cuz stock doesn't leave me scared like it should
He uses his car as a weekend fun car. And the main difference I'm sure he notices is the extra 110whp he has over the 20G on race gas. And the 80-90 extra ponies on pump gas.
Is there any type of database with dyno plots of various setups ON PUMP GAS? It seems like 90% of the numbers/plots that are posted are on race gas. It gets old having to sift through so much stuff when doing research.
or even simpler if thos who have setups of an upgraded turbo could post up user name - turbo - fmic / tmic - estimated or dyno number - how you use yo car this way people that are chasing down a certain setup can get a round off feel and ask questions to those users that have the setup they want. in fact.. i'll try and start a new thread about it and hopefully it will turn into something resorcefull
