About damn time! I'll be getting a Blue-Ray player finally and will be going on a shopping spree for all those action titles I've been waiting to buy!

Anybody know how well the PS3 emulates PS2 games software-wise? That's one of the key reasons for me to get one, and I know the first gen had hardware backwards compatiblity.

PS2 BC is dead for good. And they made such a big deal about the PS3 initially having it, and dogged Microsoft for having a software-based BC solution on the 360. So stupid.

BC is the only thing stopping me from getting a ps3. I have a ton of ps2 games, and it makes no sense for me to run two systems. It also doesn't make any sense for me to have to purchase these games AGAIN when/if they decide to put them onto the ps3 store.

To me, it seems like a giant middle finger. I can't be the only person with a desire to save space and money by having one unit play all of my games.

No sense? Seriously? If you use it that much, having two systems make much more sense. Imagine the PS3 dying from too much usage (heat), now you have nothing. At least with two systems, you can still play the old school games. I rock both systems (not as much any more). But I prefer to have them separate.

Ok, but with the same argument, if your ps2 dies, you can't play any of those games because your ps3 won't read them... and you're stuck going out buying a new ps2 or a used one, either way it's around 60-100 bucks that could have been saved.

See what i mean? it sucks.

I kind of agree, it would be nice to have the PS3 play both, but Sony is still selling PS2's and PS2 games, making the PS3 play them both would short them. Do I wish the PS3 played PS2 games? For sure! But it didnt stop me from getting the 3. The PS3 is like a mini pc and comparing it to the PS2 is like comparing apples to oranges.

*waits for this to become a consol vs PC thread*

Nah, dream, I really don't care who plays what anymore.

besides the only reason i ever pressured anyone to play pc was so they'd join in games :)

Stupid, stupid decision on Sony's part. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for a used 1st gen PS3 then.

I have a PS3 which I ONLY use for Blu Ray and watching internet videos. My 360 I use for all gaming because I love achievements on it and I love the xbox controller

And rex, if you already have a ps2 you may as well keep it. it isn't worth the money you get to get rid of it

Girlfriend bought (me) a first-gen 60 gig PS3. Backwards compatability = WIN. I still hate them for stopping BC. BUT, the PS3s are still selling, and so are the slim PS2s.

That's the thing. I have lots of PS2 games, but no PS2 since I don't have the roommate that had one anymore.
