Don't know what's gotten into me today. I've been doing a lot of research into my summer's budget and finances, and decided that within the summer that i'm going to buy a new car. It was always going to be an '06 STi unquestionably, but for some reason the Evo has sparked my interest today. They are about $3000 less and have a little more potential that i can see than the STi at going fast for cheap.

Be kind to me for possible throwing in the Stars for the Diamonds.

 what are you thinking? nah just playin I say go for it, it is your car/payment I don't see how you can argue the performance differences Evo vs. STi too much. Like any new car purchase go through the pros and cons of both cars and be sure to drive them both, Also make sure you shop around there is at least one local dealer marking up the price of new MRs $5000 don't know about base models. If it comes down to one of these two cars you really can"t go wrong. Good Luck

+1 for the local owners scene you will find way more going on with the subarus but, the Evo guys are trying to get there group going I think its just harder when its a model specific group.

ask 95lwrx what he thinks of EVOs and reliability then you'll change your mind, somthing about the crankwalk, thrust bearing ect ect...not to mention its a cheap rattle trap POS built upon a tin can chassis and looks like some sort of pissed off homosexual. mitsu is a step under KIA, IMO. no doubt they are fast, but why sacrifice build quality and reliability.

If I already didn't own a WRX, I would probably consider an Evo for my next new car.

As stupid as this sounds, I'll probably get a new STi simply because I can put a good majority of my parts from the wagon on it. lol.

yep, my buddy has a evo 8 that has been nothing but problems, i'm sure the 9's are better, but here's what he's had go wrong-
this is at 27,000 miles- clutch smoked but thats common
    then crank sensor,
brought down to cities where it died on the tech down there working on it, crank sensor again, when they tore it apart the noticed excessive play in the crankshaft- thrust bearing was smoked resulting in the ever wonderful 'crankwalk' so the dealer wants to put in a longblock- around $6,000 dollars.

so he get's to get it towed back and and most likely have to buy a stroker kit as that's his cheapest option right now-still around $3,000.

granted they are easy and cheap as hell to make fast but the whole reliability thing scares me, when he had all these problems we looked around alot on evo forums and found out alot of stuff that would make me never buy one.

but of course it's all up to the person buying the car, whatever they like they should buy.

^ :???: you are one strange young man. Anyway A friend of mine has owned two Evo VIII one was/is a MR and he has had no problems whatsoever with either of his cars. If you have any problems thats what the warranty is for and if you go and void it that your problem.

diamond star motors= nothing but problems, proven fact. three examples, evo, eclipse, and the ludicrisly fragile 3000GT that blew the hell up if you looked @ it sideways.

My brother is installing his second clutch this weekend, evo 9 GSR 9,000 miles.

That sounds like a bit of a maintenace nightmare, but I told him that he'd get less than 15k out of it the way he drove it when he forst got it.

Other than that it's a nice car. clutch doesnt tolerate abuse though

Wonder if that is why the 91 GSX I had blew up. I took real good care of it but who knows what the previous driver did to it. Without any warning it went "BOOM" and then their was smoke and it was not coolent. Oh well, it put me that much closer to my STi.

my brother owns an evo 9. it has about 5k miles on it now....so far it's been good to him. The evo is a nice car but you should be aware of it too with all the people that have been having issues with the evo. You could be one of the lucky ones and never see any issues. never know.....

Have you given any thought to a GT? I, too, thought I was going to buy an Evo 9 last year but I didn't.

well, my brother just got his 9 out of the shop AGAIN. transfer case and diff needed warranty work.

I told him to sell it and get an STi, he gave me an hour worth of ranting about the evo's superiority.

I mentioned that my 13 year old WRX has about as many issues as his 7 month old evo. That ended the conversation.

I drove a friend's Evo III and I liked the way it drove. Nice car and he's had no problems. I bought an STI after driving it though just due to trust of the brand. I I'll only buy Toyota, Honda, and Subaru unless I get rich and can afford multiple cars which I can pay to fix.

decided to do the smartest thing actually; save up a little/pay of debt, get some liquidity and buy a house.
