Anyone got shops or independent mechanics they would recommend? I could use a little paid help getting it running again. I'm NE of the metro up 35 a ways but can haul it.
Mainly getting the old fuel out. Could mean replacing the tank. God only knows what kind of sludge the gas turned into. If it starts up and runs, change out the flexible brake lines. Maybe timing belt - it'll need to be changed but not sure if I want to deal with that or pay someone else to. I'm by Forest Lake. heh, yeah, what can I say - I tried it to see how it looked and kinda liked it. Painted the HID high/low beam shield red inside, too. I'm gonna put the orange corner lights back on, though.
Sorry I don't know this chassis as well as the GD, do these have the drain plugs built into the fuel tanks? I know all of my bugeyes have them and it's ridiculously handy. All you need is a jack and some stands, and enough buckets to hold however much fuel is in there. I'm moderately close to Forest Lake (Oak Grove) if you need some help. As far as timing goes, I've done several of my own but am always hesitant to do it for someone else as I don't have insurance or anyway to financially back up the work. Haha.
I'll have to look - I've got another project eating up my garage at the moment. I'd also think the lines should be flushed out. Not sure about the pump or injectors. I've never messed with the fuel system on any cars so I'm a bit clueless there. Few years back I brought our quads out of storage and the non-oxy gas in those had turned into a gel-like substance - but I just pulled the tanks and pressure washed em out. There's a pile of parts here I meant to put in back in the day - mild camshafts w/ programmed ECU and a bunch of miscellany - but I learned not to take your car apart while your wife's 8 months pregnant with your first kid. After a few years of sitting the bad gas and half disassembled car made it a bigger project just to get it running again, so it sat some more. I don't even really have much time to work on it this year, but I got really sick of paying the storage unit fees so now it's in my field waiting for room in the garage. I could've just brought it to a shop and practically paid for a turbo swap at this point with how long it sat in paid storage. lol, nah. I got those fancy new black plates now.
My recommendation for shops is always going to be JM Automotive in Osseo. But I haven’t been there in quite awhile, since I bought a more reliable Subaru.
Wow. A GC Impreza 2.5RS that does NOT have the rocker panels completely rotted out. That's a rare car these days. Get that running and in order, list it on BAT. It'll bring a good price. Hopefully it hasn't been a rodent motel for the past decade.
Maybe sell, maybe keep. Tough call. I remember now how much I liked the car, but I don't even drive that much any more.. been thinking about a fast EV, too, but the nice ones are still more $ than I want to spend. Has not been a rodent motel. It's got some bits of rust here and there, but still really clean inside and out... aside from my hack job D-Spec struts/Ground Control spring setup. I once sawzalled the roof off a 1989 Grand Am coupe and then drove it like that for a couple of months, until fall and rain came. .. wide bodies are sexy though, don't tempt me
Was that an "Original Size" image from your phone? I didn't know they made Jitter Bugs that big, old man.
Your parents kept stepping on yours, too? I didn't have legos, but I did have those...I guess they served the same cosmic purpose of reminding parents not to walk barefoot...
I had legos and got myself as a child even. When I was a kid the leggo wheels had metal axles. One of the wheels had come off and I took a lego wheel axle through the foot.
