FP 20G Setup Questions

I was looking at dyno sheets and mods for the 20g turbo's. Just wondering if headers and up-pipes are a need for this turbo. I know some people say its not really worth it for the money. I also looked at Jorge's SR56 set-up. Impressed me alot. He has ebay TMIC,tbe,meth injection,stock injectors,cai and made 402whp w/100% meth injection(aggresive tune). I also wondered how much do people usually boost with this turbo on pump gas.

Set-Up:
FP 20G 8cm housing 2.4"inch inlet
Turboback exhaust
Short ram intake or cold air(Not sure if its necessary)
PE 850cc Fuel Injectors
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
APS DR525 Top Mount Intercooler(Or if FMIC is recommended)
Finally an Open Ecu Tune

What do you think? Cheaper then the $6K I first came up with which made no sense that I could just get a Garret GT30R Turbo Kit for $3K.

you'll get too comfortable with the 20g.
i wouldn't do headers until you are making way more power.

also, real boost control would be nice.

 

A big turbo build (30R+) is going to cost you waaay more then 6k.

How high does the stock MAP sensor go?

 

I'm running about 22 psi tapering down to about 20 psi with my 20g setup on my 2.0 WRX. That's with meth injection. I could probably push the boost up even higher once my tune is refined...But it's making good power now, full spool at about 4200 rpm and I'm guessing around 300 whp.

mod list: Open ECU, Titek catless DP & UP, SPT exhaust, pillar gauges (boost, volts, oil pressure), 660 cc modded injectors, Walbro FP, DB 20G, Perrin turbo inlet, STI hood scoop, SSAC TMIC, Snow Performance Meth Injection, Safe Injection Module, Hawk APS brake pads

 

an up pipe is a must for a 20g i think, i still have stock headers but made 315hp w/ a 4eat on my 20g setup.

 

FULL-RACE headers!!!

I think you mean some form of programmable boost control for boost above 22psi. Under that threshold, the stock ecu does a fantastic job compared to the pos dtec.

 

ya, with race gas. Full boost @ 4200 RPM and 300whp is alittle sad imo.

 

Generally- 25% of Crank HP is lost to the wheels with an auto, versus no more than 15% with a Manual

 

I don't think doing above 22psi on that turbo with stock internals is really safe. I think I might stay at 20psi. Until I have forged pistons. I guess headers will be something to think about after the setup is done. And the meth injection is something I want to think about but I don't have a computer to change maps when I don't have any meth left to run on. Although i do work at a gas station free washer fluid!!!

Full boost at 4200rpm is sad, and that was IMO incase you missed that. And the only reason your car is somewhat fast from dig is because its an AUTO, probably becasue you cant drive a manual car :laugh:
