    Situation:

My friend's dumb ass bf hit my wifes car. Best part.. he didn't say anything. He just drove away. There's no way this damage was there when we went to her house. Now we're in that "well, I don't think i hit your car" argument. Ugh. My question: Looking at the damage does it look like this damage happened by a car backing into it or going forward? There was a much larger dent that I popped out before I took the pictures. Going from the front of the car to the back it was deepest towards the back of the car.

Please note that I cleaned the area before taking the pictures

    The damage:

We're looking at body shops right now. Other idea: we just buy a new fender and I have it painted, then figure something out with the damn bumper.

I hear silver is almost impossible to match.

Its definitely a swipe. Not a blunt straight on hit.

Sucks dude, anyway you can go after his insurance?

Looking at it, its super hard to tell if it was going forward or backwards. Did you look at his car? park next to it and match the body lines to your scratches?

His car is a heaping pile of **** with dents and crap all over it. There was a mark at the **exact** same level on his rear drivers side panel. I at first thought that maybe it was hit going forward, but the more I look at it the more I think it was backed into.. which would be correct with the movement. I just wanted other people to tell me if they agreed or not. Please don't be biased. He won't fess up to backing into it, but he says "well.. i was really close". As for going after insurance it's not worth it. I have a bad feeling we're gonna eat this one in the end. Damnit i'm so pissed.

Oh yeah. as for transfer because he went out driving around after he hit her car there was salt all over his POS so I could tell what was silver and what was salt. His van is purple but i'm still shocked there wasn't purple on her car. Like I said it was super dirty/salty so I don't know if that would put a buffer in place.

one last note: if anyone want to piss my wife off like no other just clip her car. For those of you who have meet her you already know she's a bit of a "firecracker".. just wait till you hit her car.

The problem is my friend is a really good girl, she's just dating this loser. Honestly I'd be happy if she just ditched him. I don't want our friendship to be down the crapper because of this dumb asses lack of driving skills

Threaten him with litigation and settle for your deductible, at the very least. You happen to know of some guys that can make a car suddenly swerve into oncoming traffic.

Take lots of pictures of his(her) car too.

I'd say no question, the damage was caused by a car going from right to left (front to back) in the pictures. The most damage is at the front of the fender lip, that would only happen if someone was going that direction.

What a load of crap, too. Looks like purple paint to me...

Can't believe some people now-a-days. What a douche.

That's a front to back swipe, judging from the damage.
At the least, you should call a report to the police and make a hit-and-run report on it, just in case your insurance needs it.
Following that, he should own up to it instead of being a bitch. If he won't (since he sounds like a loser anyway), you can submit all the information to your insurance and they can go after him in litigation. Is his van insured?

Definitely from front to back. And just hinting at suing unless he covers the deductible would be probably the best compromise in your situation.

Yeah, judging from the damage I can see, there's no way you're going to fix this for less then your deductible. Make sure you cover your bases.

I always am amazed at the ability my car has to fit into tight parking spaces. Even if people park like douches, I still manage to have a bit of room. Our cars are really tiny.

If the guy has the SAME marks on his vehicle there is no contest. Is there silver paint in the scratches on his car?

Sorry to hear about this, it sucks. Don't really know what else to say :(

Yes we confronted him and he just says "Well, i know i got really close, but I don't think i hit it"

As for sueing it's not going to happen. I have a major issue with the way americans are so sue happy. It's not worth losing a friendship over a whole $500 deductible. We'll work things out. I just wish 1. he'd fess up to it and 2. she'd break up with him.

Thanks all for the comments. I'll keep you up to date.

totally agree with your view of american's sue happy bs.

Whenever I park in a parking lot I make sure to park uber far away from everyone usually in a corner spot. But it sucks when you have to park in a driveway or on the side of a street. I dont even trust my family in my driveway...

Is it wrong to ask for sex as a form of payment? JK.
One time a Waste Management truck backed into and put a hole in my bumper. He gave me $120 and hooked me up with a few months of free service.

I did that at EP mall when I first got my Forester.. I literally parked about 300ft away from the nearest car.. I came out.. 1 car parked beside mine.. WTF..

and agreed on the sue happy nature around this country... but I would report it as a hit and run (or check on legality of that claim seeing as you have spoken to the guy)

    So a little update:

We took the car to Minnetonka Collision center. One Word: Amazing. Their price was $200 less then the other quotes we got. Not only do we get the car back looking in great shape, but he washed and cleaned the outside of the car **AND** the inside of the car. I'm talking full inside detail job. Amazing. Even went as far to put some shine stuff on the tires. I would highly recommend them.

As for getting some money from the guy who hit it.. that's a whole other story. Still fighting that one.

Good to hear you at least had a good experience with the body shop Ryan! I'll be looking for a good body shop soon once I get the replacement fender and bumper for mine, and will have to keep them in mind. Free full detail is always a nice cherry on top.
