So, as of yesterday, I no longer work for Frito-Lay. Just got laid-off after working there for over 8 years. No notice, and barely any severance. Yeah, this bites.

If anyone has any leads on jobs out there for around $16/hr or more, please let me know. I'm open to just about anything, and not afraid of physical labor (in fact, it would be nice to lose some of the poundage I gained in the last 5 years from working in the office without needing a gym membership :D ).

    Some of my skills/experience:
-8 years overall of warehouse picking, loading, rotating (with forklift experience)
-Internal CSR for our Sales team
    -Shipping, receiving, and inventory management
-Accounts payable work (managed operational expenditures region wide)
    -HR and payroll
-Good computer and electronics know-how (build my own computers, setup my own home and car stereo systems, etc.). Worked for Best Buy Geek Squad for a short stint (seasonal).
-2-year degree in Commercial Art. Worked for a printing press for a few years after college doing typesetting and platemaking.
-Placed 1st and 2nd overall in PA for the SCCA LOL Rallycross circuit the last two years. :D

I'd like to get into doing something with IT, even though I don't have any degrees or certs (help-desk sort of stuff). I do like being on the road and helping others with tech problems, so an installer type job may be something I'd like. Otherwise, I'm good at admin work and extremely good at multi-tasking while still smiling and handling requests and concerns in a customer service environment. and I wouldn't mind still doing that.

A lot of you know me personally, and know I have an awesome work ethic and great attitude. Thanks in advance for any leads or suggestions. I'm trying to stay positive and look at this as a new beginning for the better.

    Brian

Dude Sorry to hear that, especially being that we were just joking about that on Tuesday. Sophie may be able to get you in the warehouse at SV. PM Lady Legacy or me and I'll get you her contact info. Again sorry to hear that.

well the place i used to work at (before I made the new manager look like a moron in front of his manager and led to his vendetta to get me fired) polar semi conductor is hiring night-weekend shift people. When i worked there with the shift differencial i was making about $26 a hr and it was easy mindless maint. Work that was well documented in front of you. When tools actually broke down alot of the problems were known of and had fixes how ever on the rare occasion something new happened electrical troubleshooting was always in short hand there as alot of the people they hired bearly knew what a volt meter was.

Thanks, but that would be a little bit of a commute :) .

Thanks, Izzy. Not really into the military thing, though.
I'll look into that, Jason. Already applied for unemployment today, but hope to not rely on it longer than I have too. Glad it's there, but I'm proud to earn a living and to not rely on hand-outs for longer than necessary.

I'd hit up the tech agencies. If you're trying to get in to IT with no degree that's a good place to start. You stand a reasonable chance of landing a help desk type gig if you understand the difference between a monitor and a keyboard, and you can fog a mirror when placed in front of your mouth. Good stepping stone to an entry level field tech/admin type gig.

I have a good friend on base with me that has a family (his father) business in the twin cities for landscaping and such, I know he offered myself work when this deployment is over. I can try to spot him soon if your interested? I'm not sure how much this helps when its an "i know a guy that knows a guy" but otherwise the same bud works for the city doing street sweeping and was bragging last year about his upper $20's p/h range. Otherwise the military would be good too ;) Officers do lazy jobs in offices and get decent pay/benefits and you only go through maybe 5 months of heck... I also know that you can be a civilian tech at Camp Ripley and get paid pretty decent money. I'd have to do some footwork to find out more about those jobs though, a buddy just interviewed for one of those kinds of jobs at $36 per hour...lol

Ramsey, Anoka, and Dakota Counties are all currently hiring for various positions. Specifically Ramsey County is accepting applications for their 'Clerk Typist' position, essentially it's a clerical support position but there is ridiculously good job security working for the county after you pass the probationary period, and there are ample chances to promote and move to different positions/departments once you've passed probation.

My work is always hiring... After a year or two you would be able to move to an IT position... Many of the staff do... Just a thought.

I think we might be hiring a permanent HR person at our work, but I don't think it's for the kind of hourly rate you're looking for.http://www.medtox.com/Careers.aspx and have a browse. Pay's not awesome but benefits are second to none.

Sorry, Dean, I forgot which company you work for. *Edit* yeah that one health care company?

Hoboman - I'm going to apply for that clerk position

Redd - thanks for the lead! I'll try applying for that and some other positions on their site.

I hope this thread is helping others out that are in the same position just as much as myself. Mods, if you want this kept to PM's only, just let me know.

*Edit* by Dean per company policy

No problem here. Unless you think someone is going to steal your dream job away from you. Otherwise it shouldn't be hurting anyone by posting these leads.

Yeah, and if you do apply for something PM me and let me know - I can talk to HR and get you on the "call" list.

EDIT: I forgot to add, we are REALLY hurting for an HR person so you might have some bargaining power.
