In the next few months im going to be selling my 93 s4 to get on 04-06 sti. I dont plan on doing much to the sti just intake and exhaust for the sound since it will have enough power for now. The main question i have is how strong are these blocks, from everything i read people are saying that the 1st thing that goes out are the piston rings. Well what about high miles on sti's i would like to get one with around 60k max, so basically how long with it last if i treat it right with maintance and have a few track days a year with it? -Rob
if maintained properly, it should last a while. my buddy has a 04 sti with over 140k. its been modded since 30k miles. everything still works perfectly.
It will last a lot longer if you don't just strap on an intake and exhaust. The intake especially can be very dangerous. If it has enough power, just leave it be. It should be pretty reliable then. As far as I know any issues with engine longevity only really occur once you start pushing the power. The usual issues with high mileage apply though. You'll probably want to do suspension work including struts and bushings.
sweet, someone mentioned to me in passing the other day that the 05 sti are very good, idk i guess he though they did something different that year, can some elaborate on that? BroCo, why would i need to get the car tuned after putting on a catback? or are you saying get it chiped/flashed then a tune?
