Have some questions, some I have found half answers all over rs25 and nasioc, but wondering if any locals have any real experience... Details: I have a 2000 2.5rs GM6 (2-Door) manual chassis. I have JDM V8 5x100 STI Hubs/Brembos I WILL BE dropping in a 2004/5/6 STI Transmission and associated rear diff I WILL BE SOURCING a EJ205 WRX engine (Longblock Complete) I have an OEM front crossmember (NA with OEM 2.5rs rack) and I have a Legacy Turbo OEM front Crossmember with OEM legacy Turbo Rack. I have an OEM 2.5rs rear Subframe Questions: Any real advantage to getting an STI rear member? I have read that they are built stronger - but nobody has stated anything about it that seems "worth it" Any reason I should push for an STI front Crossmember? Will open my swaybar options up if I do? Is an sti steering rack "worth it?" Thanks!
The only piece that I can offer any input is on the steering rack...my saabaru came from the factory with an STI steering rack and I never truly appreciated how quick it was until I drove a WRX with the regular WRX rack. What a difference! The STI rack is FAR more responsive. You used to have an STI as I recall, so you are probably familiar with the STI rack. And then I drove an Evo. Mind blown lol. But since you don't have VDC to worry about, you could look into any of the after market steering racks that are even quicker. Q-rack used to make some quick racks, but I am not sure if they are still around.
The steering rack is almost universally acclaimed as a must do upgrade. The rear member also supposedly helps out without alignment issues (it slightly changes the angles of some of the rear suspension parts IIRC). My guess is that yes, it makes an improvement, but may not be worth it for most people. Might want to search more into what I mentioned about alignment and the rear member, because I'm not 100% of it, but seem to remember something about it.
08+ STI is not listed, only the 08+ impreza. I'm assuming that it has to do with both the DCCD and VDC...steering angle has a lot to do with both of these.
Yeah- I think I will work towards getting that steering rack. - Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 2004 STI front subframe and the legacy turbo one? Also - I ended up purchasing an STI rear subframe - it was like $100 shipped and then I will get the whiteline lateral link kit (with all 4) to set it up right. Getting closer!!
