    Anyone know what it is?

I think that when parked on a public street that you just need to visible, like on your dash. But when driving if you have it on your dash and get pulled over, you could probably get ticketed for that cause it is on your dash. And according to a cop who pulled me over before, you cant have anything what so ever on your dash or below your mirror.

But, can you get a ticket if its not on the front of your car when you get pulled over?

Lol just trying to give them less reasons to ticket me :).

I received a ticket for not having one on the front while my car was parked outside of where I work...and also was pulled over for it and given a warning.

(not the wrx) I still refuse to put one on, due to having a pristine front bumper with no holes in it.

i have never had one on any of my cars since i had my elcipse gsx at 16, so thats 5 years. I've been pulled over once for it by some lame cop in pylmouth and he lectured me on how wrong it is. I got another when parked in south mpls, i came back to my car and was like wtf?? i put money in the meter but the meter maid had given me a no front plate ticket! I got one more when i was at midway when i was young and dumb-hit me loud exhaust, no front plate, tint, excessive accl.

so 3 times in 5 years isn't bad, I never paid a dime for any of the tickets (yes including the one with 4 offenses) just go to the court officer, they know its a joke law and you can always say "i just bought the car and i didn't have one on it" or "i was cleaning it and had to take it off" or "i was at a car show and took it off". i went to school in MI and they aren't required there so i used that excuse when i talked to them saying i just forgot to put it back on.

wait, what? I have a new bumper on my non-subaru. It has no holes drilled in it for mounting a license plate, therefore i refuse to drill them. What does this have to do with getting in an accident?

    Well

If I remember right unless it's a 1972 or older you have to have a front license plate mounter to the car. But I am old ya know.

it is true that you can't have anything between you and the windshield. not even a stupid lil thing hanging from the mirror. so I was wondering if things like valentine one are illegal or not.

its illegal, from how i understood what he told me, anything, i mean anything, on your dash is illegal cause it could possibly block your vision or become loose and fall off the dash and cause an accident.

    Examples...

U can own and use a radar detector, but cant mount it on your dash. U can own a GPS, but cant mount it.

Now im assumin a cop will probably give you a warning about the GPS, but will ticket you over the Radar Detector.

The funny thing is... Look at how much crap a cop car has on his dash!

    M.S. § 169.79
2-4 exempts trailers, motorcycles, semis, and collector vehicles.

    Also:
Basically all covers violate this, includinga windshield. Keeping a plate of the dash is stupid anyhow, they can be quite dangerious ina serious accident.

I beleive that people who dont mount their plates only put them on their dashes when they are parked, not while they drive :). At least thats what i did.

fondoooone never said he puts the plate in the window. just no plate at all

you could always use a 90 degree bracket to mount a plate and leave the front of the bumper clean

There are other things i'd rather mount 90 degrees, if you're busy later....

But yeah, theres more than enough metal bits under there...a bracket would be a good idea. Thanks carl.

I run a front plate on the Suby but no front plate on the Iroc. Never got questioned about it on the Iroc but I am sure I would get pulled over without a front plate on the suby.

actually, cops use that as an excuse to pull over drunk people on friday and saddy nights. and then if you are drunk they don't even give you a ticket about that.

Exactly.... I can grab my clipboard while cutting a 60mph turn through a red light, as it slides off my dash.

oh and make sure your license plate is not wrapped around your bumper after this winter... A cop pulled me over because he couldn't see half of my plate. i guess snow pushed the license plate into the radiator opening on the front bumper lol he didn't give me a ticket because of my "snow" excuse :)
