Hi everyone, $1000 for the wheels $250 for the tires $1200 for everything Wheel specs: 17x8 ET20 (all four). Original bolt pattern 5x120 (for BMW 5-series), re-drilled to 5x100. Tire specs: 205-40R17 BFG G-Force Sport Comp2 (all four). Zero miles. It pains me to do this but I believe that I have to sell my wheels that I just finished. They simply don't fit my car as I imagined (there is too much poke in the front). I purchased these wheels last year and refinished them this winter. The wheels were in good shape when I bought them: Polished lips Polished bolts Repainted faces in BBS gold I was a bit unsatisfied with the polish and polished bolts rust like crazy (unprotected steel) so I broke them down and refinished them again. The lips have been sanded from 600 grit to 2000 grit and then polished with a denim wheel followed by a cotton wheel. They shine very nicely. There are a few nicks here and there that I could not polish out. The wheels are completely straight and have brand new (0 mile) BFG GForce Sport Comp2 tires mounted and balanced (as of yesterday). All of the wheel hardware (the nuts and bolts) were zinc plated a week ago by American Tinning and Galvanizing in PA. The zinc plating looks very nice and, in my opinion, is preferable to rusty bolts. All nuts were tightened down in a star pattern to seat the bolts and faces and then backed off. I used blue Loctite and re-torqued all nuts afterwards. If you feel that I am out of line in any way, I am willing to talk but please keep it civil. I do not need to sell these as I am not strapped for cash so please keep insane offers to yourself What you get: New tires Refinished wheels Additional bag of zinc plated hardware Additional re-drilled face Two additional Style 5 barrels (one is bent) Four hubcentric rings to fit your VW Four gold "BBS" center caps and two "BMW" center caps *More pictures available upon request*
That's all I see in your first post...? The wheels were redrilled by drilling five new holes in the spots that didn't have anything before. Thus the wheels are drilled to accommodate both 5x120 and 5x100. If you run hubcentric rings (included for VW 56.1mm fitment) there are no safety issues to be experienced from this. Just don't run them lug centric thus placing shear stresses on lugs which are not designed for that. Did I somehow miss a question?
I see only one question as well, answered clearly. FYI, just to make sure the correct information is spread, neither hubcentric rings nor lugs carry any meaningful weight. It is the clamping force + friction that holds the wheel to the hub. Hubcentric rings will not make the wheel any more secure, but they do help align the wheel to avoid vibration.
Redrilled by Kamjee Tool (I believe that is the shop). They were redrilled prior to my ownership so I'm not sure on the cost. Right, the lug nuts clamp the wheel to the hub, but any forces perpendicular to axis of rotation are transferred to the hub via the interface to the hub lip. Thus a hubcentric ring would bear these forces. If your hub bore was too big and you didn't run rings, your lugs would bear this force (shear stresses which they are not designed for). That's my understanding at least. I could be completely wrong Either way, you want to run your wheels hubcentric.
The lugs provide the clamping force. The hub ring provides centering of the wheel. The friction between the hub face and the inner wheel face (generated by strong clamping force) actually supports the weight of the car, rotational force, etc. It's not unsafe to run without centering rings, but for the minimal cost it is stupid to do so. Also, I have had a set of style 5s. They are beautiful, lightweight, strong, and timeless. You can still find the occasional set cheap (I got mine cheap), but they have all been around long enough that they either have corrosion, or have been restored as these have. Properly restored versions fetch good money. These are very nice wheels.
