I never thought I'd sell it, but I've decided for my current needs/wants, I'd like to trade some offroad capability, for interior space.....I'm looking at Sequoias... So here's my baby 1987 4Runner, started as an SR5 Turbo. It was originally a MN vehicle, but was salvaged in the mid-'90s, and then spent most of it's miles in CO. As a result, it has some rust, but not too bad, and the front fenders have seen zero MN Winters. Rear quarters were pretty rusty, I ground them down to bare metal, prepped, and painted with POR15, and then did the 2-tone with Duplicolor Bed Liner kit. 1992 Chevrolet 4.3/4L60 swap from an S-10 Blazer. This is the first year of the CPFI (Spider) injection, and last year for the non-electric transmission. IIRC ~140k on the chassis, similar on the engine/transmission. Engine swap only has a few thousand miles. Timing set, plugs, wires and serp belt were done then. I had some issues with it, and in chasing the problem (intermittent symptoms, I ended up sort of just throwing parts at it), it got a new (GP Sorensen reman) spider injector and fuel lines in the intake, upper plenum gasket, and (Duralast Gold brand-new) distributor/cap/rotor. Brand new Airtex fuel pump and strainer for the blazer mounted to the stock bracket in the tank. Fuel tank relocated to the driver's side in anticipation of an FJ-80 rear axle (diff is offset to the passenger side). Transmission also got a full rebuild in the process of installing the new output shaft for the Advance Adapters adapter to the Toyota Gear-drive transfer case. Also has Advance adapters motor mount brackets 2" 4Crawler body lift, and motor mount spacers. Budbuilt tcase crossmember/skidplate formed for the 2" drivetrain lift. Tcase in stock position. Uses stock driveshafts. Original shifter modded to use a B&M shifter cable to control the 4L60. BudBuilt rear shock relocation kit to mount some nice Monroe shocks in this / \ configuration. 16" '98 4Runner alloy wheels with virtually brand-new 315/75r16 GoodYear Wrangler DuraTracs. Stock replacement all-metal 22RTE radiator with cheap universal electric fan cools the system just fine if there is any air movement. I was on one trail last summer that was very slow moving, with thick underbrush so there was no breeze, and the temp crept up. I started researching better fans, but never pulled the trigger. Speedometer cable/exhaust came in contact....and the exhaust won. No speedometer/Odometer. '84 Supra LSD in the front, CV axle bolts ground down for easier removal. Comes with extra CV axles, extra (red) topper, and mostly complete FJ80 elocker rear axle (will need brakes, I think it's completely missing one caliper. Most of the stock link brackets have been cut off in preparation of leaf spring perches). And Skyjacker stock-length 4" lift leaf springs (currently has stock + 2" blocks). Smittybilt front bumper, 4xInnovations rear (both accomodate the 2" body lift, rear has Class II 2" receiver in it). Digital dash. Temp and fuel gauge are really all that still work. Aftermarket tach there, Transmission temp gauge in place of the altimeter. Early picture of the engine bay Feel free to page through my Photobucket album for build pictures http://s26.photobucket.com/user/Numbchux/library/4runner?sort=3&page=1 build thread: http://www.yotatech.com/f199/numbchux-1987-4runner-build-up-thread-224025/ Starting at $7k, or trade for a Sequoia. It's hard to price something like this. Finding a body as solid as this in this part of the world is hard enough....I won't be offended by offers.
I have some very fun memories of an '89 V6 4Runner that my dad and I had when I lived in Seattle. Sorry to see this one go up for sale, some one is going to get a fun trail rig. GLWS!
Thanks man! Looked at a Sequoia today that would be perfect. Solid mechanically....but with some nasty faded paint, and cracked trim. If I can get the deal done soon (before that thing is sold), I'll take $5k.
we looked at Sequoias but went the 100series... cant beat the original Landcruisers hahha... 98 came with center and rear lockers... just rented some jeeps in Moab.. next year I am planning on going down with the lc
That particular Sequoia is sold....back to $6k or I'll hang on to it until we move. FJ100s are on the list, but typically about half again the price of Sequoias....and I can't figure out why. There's better aftermarket support, but that's about it.
