1990 Subaru Sambar 4WD $4,500 obo Located near St. Cloud Features: - top speed ~75 MPH - 30-35 MPG - four wheel independent suspension - 660cc inline four SOHC (8 valve) - 5 speed manual transmission - pushbutton 4WD (vacuum actuated) - All the box sides fold down and can be removed, turning it into a flatbed. - RHD ^_^ Modifications: - Semperit Winter-Grip 175/65-14 on (4x100mm) American Racing wheels (less than 1000 miles on these) - Toyota Previa roof rack (shortened ~4 feet, narrowed ~6 inches) with four Peterson driving lights (not functional yet - I ran the wiring inside the cab, haven't had the time/motivation to pull the dash and install all the relays, flashers, switches, etc to make them wig wag, which was my plan.) - Sony xplod CDMP3 deck - Radioshack CB with stubby lil antenna behind the cab (short range) - Wagner Truview sealed beams - proper LHD orientation. - STi stickers :lollollollol: Crap You Oughtta Know: - I'm 6'4", 300lbs and I fit kinda alright. Most people fit in this truck just fine. - Last winter, I adjusted the valve lash too wide, lost oil pressure, and toasted the original engine. I put in a used engine (with a later EFI style head, which supposedly flows better.) The new engine burns a little oil - it might need valve stem seals. I haven't run a leakdown test on it, but the dealer I bought the engine from said it had great compression. Seems to run strong. - Roof lights aren't wired up. - May or may not be street legal (on city streets and county roads) with a Class II ATV registration. I'm in the process of creating some case law, trying to avoid a $380 fine for "use of an unregistered motor vehicle," despite registering it as an ATV. Beware The Man. As long as three of the wheels are on the ground, this truck is pretty good on slippery surfaces. It has open differentials, so if you get it into a tipsy ditch-crossing situation, you may get stuck. There does not appear to be a center differential... I can't get it to oversteer on ice (or any other surface...) in 4WD. I coated the floor with some rubberized 3M stuff, but it's wearing off around the pedals. Engine swap: Hauls rockets with bent forks. (Comes with 12" steelies and 145R12 tires as pictured above.) Hauls scooters with straight forks. Smaller than an NPR... Colin
That is AWESOME! If I had a use for it, I would buy it. Very cool and unique car. Why are you selling it?
It's too much hassle to keep it legal. I want to buy a huge army truck, like an M35A2, which is more legal and more obnoxious to the police. Can't go wrong! Colin
I've got a couple videos... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-469796994509497617&hl=en http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2512397913313465562&hl=en I had some awesome footage of the truck going through ~12 inches of powder in the yard, but GoogleVideo (in conjunction with the RIAA, I'm sure) put the kibosh on it, because I set it to a song released by a major label... D'oh! For what it's worth, I'd be willing to trade this for a RHD Legacy wagon. I don't deliver mail, I'm just a JDM poser. :hsugh: Colin
Wow I really got a good laugh out of that thing. It reminds me of Korean trucks, and I love that thing.
I know at least 3 users said it but THIS THING IS AWESOME AND F KICKS ASS! what's the story behind it? Where did you get it RHD? how did you get it registered?
I bought it from a guy on Craigslist a couple years ago. After ~10 years it gets prohibitively expensive to maintain a car's registration in Japan, so they ship them here for off-road use. They're great for parks departments, facilities maintenance, grounds crews, college campuses, etc. No.
lol you're 6'4 and you can kind of fit, most people fit fine, I'm 5'3 so I should barely be able to reach the gas pedal
Sambars were not available in the US (japan only, IIRC).....it's been imported, which is why it's not street legal.
