For Sale: 2005 Saab 92x Aero [Saabaru](2005 Subaru WRX Wagon)
    About the Saabaru
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    wiki
Subaru manufactured a badge engineered version of the second generation Impreza hatchback as the "Saab 9-2X" between 2004 and 2005. Retailed only in the North American market for the 2005 and 2006 model years, the car earned the nickname "Saabaru".[16] The car's name is written as "92X" on its badge, but as "9-2X" in advertising and other texts. At the time the 9-2X was conceived, Saab Automobile had been a fully owned subsidiary of General Motors (GM), and GM held a 20 percent stake of Subaru's parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
^^ All of the mechanical parts are interchangeable with the 2005 WRX Wagon.

They only sold about 12,000 total 9-2xs in the US and Canada and of those around 4000 where Aeros.

    The sales pitch:
This car is simply outstanding in the snow (with snow tires). You will get everything you need to run in the winter or summer. I have spent a lot of my own personal time/effort/money making sure that this car drives and acts as close as possible or better than it did new. It has some miles, but it is solid. I had no intention of selling it until external factors in my life changed. I would really like to see this car go to someone who will appreciate it. It is a cult car, and you are not likely to see any others around. This car has been my hobby as long as I have owned it so much of the maintenance completed below could have been completed at a much later date as not of the parts had actually failed.

    History:
    Adult Driven. . .
I am the second owner. 28 year old scientist. Purchased car with 101K miles near Detroit Michigan from an engineer who works for GM. The car was his daily driver from ~2005 - April 2012. Most of the miles are freeway/highway as he was putting on 75 miles a day in commute alone.

    Maintenance:
--The following items were completed around 105K Miles
Timing Belt (Full Kit with water pump all double bearing idlers)
New aluminum radiator (Stock radiator had a plastic top prone to failure)
    Tensioner pulley for A/C belt
    New Spark Plugs
Rear Diff fluid Changed with full synthetic
Front Gear oil Changed with full synthetic (both were already synthetic)
    PCV valve replaced
Replaced most rubber lines with silicone
Fixed the cold weather gas smell that is common to all 2.0 WRXs

--The following items were completed around 118K Miles
    Front axles
    Valve Cover gaskets
Struts and top hats all the way around
    Endlinks
    New Optima battery

    Goodies:
Car uses a cobb stage 2 map. A Cobb version 2 access port will come with the car. (~$350 Value)
    Catless downpipe
    Cobb Pulley
Setup to pull a small trailer (Note: Plug is toast and circuit isolator is currently acting up if you need lights)
Hella Micro DEs (highly functional fog lamp)

    The Good:
I have completed many of the maintenance items that you may expect to fail on a car that has 120K miles on it. - I have confidence in the car.

The power modifications were done in such a way that from the car is nearly as quiet stock regardless of RPM so you do not garner any extra attention from the law.

    The title is clear.

The car comes with two sets of tires:
    * Regular Sport package wheels and tires
    * A full set of snow tires mounted on a separate set of wheels. (steal)
    You will also receive....
    * Original parts. (Fogs, Down Pipe, Front axles... ect) - if you want them...

    The Bad:
The car lived near Detroit where they use a lot of salt so the car finish is not pristine.

The car has minor dents/dings and one noticeable scratch in the back bumper.

The car is on the original clutch. (good if used as an indicator of how the car has been driven) - I have driven over a half million miles in MT cars and I have yet to ever replace a clutch. I believe the original owner's driving habits are similar so you probably won't need to worry about it for awhile.

There is an oil seep around the oil pan and possibly a seal behind the flywheel. It does not leak enough to drip. It has been that way since I got the car and never seems to get any worse, but if the clutch were to ever fail that is when those seals should be replaced.

The car does use a little oil. (Maybe turbo seals as the turbo is original) ~ 1/2 to 1 quart every 3000 miles.
Do not buy a WRX/saabaru with 120K if the owner doesn't admit that the car uses some oil! - Run Rotella T6 or Pennzoil Ultra and check it once in awhile and it will be fine.

I will discount the following from the price if I don't get it done before you pickup the car.
    - 4 wheel alignment cost. The snow flew before I could get an alignment after I did the struts, and I wanted to see how the new axles would hold up.
    - Just noticed there is a small exhaust leak between the DP and exhaust system which is cold weather related, but makes the car sink a little when it is really cold. Should be a few min job if you have the parts. (Needs a donut)
    - Three small chips in the window that should be filled.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am open to reasonable offers.

Interior was still on the messy side. I may post more pictures tomorrow.

Ah are you kidding me! I've already owned two navy blue saabarus, and the most recent one was just determined totaled yesterday :( I'm very tempted, but I feel like I need to buy something bigger.

GLWS, I'm sure this will go to a very happy buyer.

I wrote the ad with enthusiasts in mind. I remember how hard it was to find a good used WRX when I was looking.

The long winded technical stuff seems to weed out people that don't know much about the car. I've been happy with the people interested in the car so far.

I'll be holding on to old blue for a little while...

Copy paste from my forester forum post...
My new forester xt has about 600 miles on it. 350 of those were put on in a dealer trade.

Anyway I put about 200 on round trip to an airport in a neighboring town.
On the way back I noticed an oil/plastic burning smell when I slowed from freeway speed. I figured it was just some of the components breaking in. Today, I drove the car some more and found that the smell was now persistent at low speed even when the engine wasn't fully warmed up.

Figure I better hunt a little as it is a similar smell to my wrx before I replaced the valve cover gaskets...

    Pop hood.

It looks like I lost quite a bit, but the dip stick is showing near full. (hopefully there was enough pressure to everything)

I'll probably call and see if they want to haul it in... but the damage is probably already done if there was a loss of pressure.

So anyway kids if you new forester smells hot you might want to start checking for oil leaks. I only live a few blocks from the dealer. I will take it in tomorrow and see what the deal is. I didn't actually pinpoint the the leak because there are too many shields in the way. I have a feeling I will have to get old blue(saabaru) out from under the tarp though.

On the bright side... I was going to roadtrip the car to Denver from Eastern ND so it is good thing that I flew. At freeway speed I may have blown all of the oil out of the engine before I noticed the problem.

I will provide some kind of update once they pull it apart.

Too many shields and a crap load of oil! I am interested to learn what the dealer thinks the issue is...

O-ring on camshaft position sensor. Forester is back up and running. It didn't take them very long to fix it so it can't be too bad to get at.

I've been driving it lately (girlfriend kind of stole the forester). I will likely still sell it at some point this summer. Sale may be fairly complicated because I never really know when or how much time I'm going to get off.

It will work best if the person lives relatively close to Grand Forks.

Right now I am just keeping a list of interested people and I will call everyone when it looks like will be home for a few days.

I've never seen another blue 92x in North Dakota. I think there was a guy in Fargo that had one. There were two red ones that belonged to students last year, but I haven't seen any around lately.
