I'm tempted to take Dune off your hands. Not that I'll be able to play an HD-DVD. I'd just add it to my small collection of obscure Dune material.
A few of my buddies and I rented that "back in the day" when Dane Cook was mega popular (because of a Dune reference in one of his jokes). I fell asleep because it was so terrible. Should I be giving it a second chance?
Well, it is a cult classic for a reason. It's not a 'good' movie by many standards. But it is really interesting and very weird. Very unique. If you like hard science fiction, it's with a try. If you like to read hard science fiction, the first book in the series is amazing. The original by Frank Herbert.
Dune was pretty cutting edge when it first came out. Now with all the CGI and hyper-realism it pales in comparison to newer ones. Oh, and Sean Young.
David Lynch's Dune, with all it's weirdness is still much better than the miniseries that was aired on Syfy in the early 2000s.
Yes. Sean Young managed to pull off looking good even in that Stillsuit. Plus you have the awesomeness of Sting and Patrick Stewart.
Patrick Stewart is decent in this movie along with Sting not too shabby. But it is pretty cheesy and dated. If you want it you can have it for free. I used to be able to play it on my PC I built a long time ago because I got a Blu-Ray/DVD reader drive that could read it. I've since replaced that with a BR lightscribe burner drive instead so I think I lost the capability to play these movies. I don't even think I opened the Dune one so it's still in the shrink wrap. Sorry but closest is a scene/skit in Kentucky Fried Movie that is pretty much on par with the softcore late night HBO/Showtime stuff.
Sure. That would be very kind of you. Since this is now also a Dune thread, I'll also say that one of the best things about the Lynch movie is the soundtrack by Toto.
Looking forward to the Dune remake (coming out next year?). ...and to keep it on (OP) topic... moderately interested in bladerunner.
All the Kevin Smith movies are spoken for along with Harold & Kumar. (aka Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jay & Silent Bob). If anybody is interested in anything else let me know and we can coordinate. Or maybe I might have to make one of these monthly meets and have them available there.
