okies.....so the car isn't tuned, but running on a rescaled fuel-injector-Cobb VF39 map for the EJ205 ECU. I have the MAF unplugged for safety reasons.... The hose that goes from the compressor housing to the wastegate is about 12-16" long in length. It's not even connected onto my boost solenoid at all. I get boost creeping from 10psi and raising at times to 13-20psi averaging about 14psi. Could it be the LONG hose?? If so then I should shorten it??? I thinks my motor flows too much air??? (Turbo inlet/Ported TGVs/WRX heads/4-1 headerback w/ 2.2L) Turbo's is as said ONCE-UPON-A-Thread to be an EVO3-16G-8cm^2 from SBR.
What wastegate actuator is on that thing? 1 bar? maybe loosen the arm until tuned? hose desn't sound to be an issue unless it's leaking also what bov are you running? And maybe I'm tired, but what bcs are you running (or not running right now) here's how mines goes with the gm bcs hose one- charge side/compressor housing to bcs. hose two- bcs to wastegate. hose three- bcs to inlet pipe/ post maf connection.
this is a QUESTION.... hahahha so no vid... I have gone WOT for the first time today, and boost does go to 15psi.... but the thign is, that it's seen 20psi....on a cold night....at 75-ish% throttle. If 1/4-1/2 throttle, it's like 9-12psi..... The wastegate does feel STIFFER than a 7lb wastegate that's on the VF39..... unless.... it's just been a while. Not running the boost controller at all. It's an '05 STi boost controller with hoses NOT connected. My BOV is the Greedy Type RS. IF it doesn't have to do with how LONG the hose from the compressor to the wastegate is, then maybe the BOV is too READY??
So you are running untuned with no boost control? If I understand you correctly you have a hose connected directly from the turbo nipple to the wastegate with no T's or other things connected. If that is the case it could be your wastegate actuator is fubar'd, the pivot needs to be cleaned up (if there is rust build up in the pivot it causes binding, I've seen this happen before), or the hose could be plugged. Sorry to doubt your optimism, but there is not any chance that your 2.2 is flowing too much air for a 16G.
+1 for loosening the waste gate arm. i think 1 turn on that thing is enough to release some pressure.
The turbo is BRAND NEW!! lolz When I first got the turbo, I pulled on the wastegate, and it felt like more than 7psi. Whenever I WOT, it'll jump to 10psi, stay there for a split second, then start creeping. I tell you, ported heads (DOUBLE D's!!!!), TGV's, 4-1 headers,........2.2L..... what do you think??? lolz But I guess I can wait to get the car tuned. THEN we can figure things out....
humm....we'll see if I need a bigger turbo after the tune, or maybe even an EWG. but we'll never know, maybe the airflow IS that good......*shrugs* but then it's also cold and not tuned....but wastegate.....it's running off the WASTEGATE and it's NEW... but ya, I'll have to turn down my wastegate adjuster because it has one. Let me go do that!!
that is the plan, but it shouldn't boost creep running off the wastegate, unless I'm pushing too much air or the arm is too tight and needs to be unscrewed.
i vote the arm, on my 60 trim, the arm was screwed almost as far as it would go, if i wouldnt have payed attention to it i would have blown my **** up
so if after adjusting the arm and it doesn't work....then we can assume the motor flows too much air?
oi, I adjusted it and I needed to pull 2-3mm to put the arm back onto the wastegate. It still creeps here in the cold!!! from 9psi, it creeps up to 14psi so far.
to pull? you shouldnt have to PULL on it at all, it should go on without any pulling on the actuator at all
here....a vid of todays run.... boost CREEP!!!! It doesn't creep as BAD as before where it would hit 20psi.... whew,.,, anyways..... S204/Twinscroll/Equal-length-header JDM sounds!! This is a 3rd gear pull from 58-ish mph. Spools quick!!! ...but well see later this summer when it's humild hot.
yes, i have the baby 16g...i wanted the evo, but couldn't wait 4-6 weeks:biggrin: yes, my car runs good and boosts to 20.7psi quicker than you can blink an eye....so yes, frumroll if you wish! to answer your question....i don't know. i did a wot run today on my way to work and had no issues.
