I am looking at getting a full turbo back exhaust and also headers with a uppipe, my question is i can get a brand new one on ebay for very cheap, what are the cons of buying a cheaper ebay exhaust versus a name one, will it be very loud, will it crack over time, just let mw know the cons to buying an ebay brand exhaust. thanks.
I just put an SRS catback on my STI. Since I just got it, I can't say much about how it will last over time, but it fit up surprisingly well. I am likely going to spray it with high temp exhaust paint to inhibit corrosion, but its some type of stainless and the build quality looks pretty good for the price. The welds all look to be in good shape and the flanges are thicker than I expected. I have read about some fitment issues with the downpipes so I am going name brand there. As for volume, I really love the sound, but its pretty loud without the silencer (this is with no cats). Its not raspy at all, nice deep rumble ... the perfect exhaust note in my mind would be a touch quieter than this one. I have heard horror stories on ebay headers, so steer clear of those, not sure about up pipes though since I have an STI.
Headers I just heard to stay away from while researching the eBay catbacks. Downpipes some people had firewall clearance issues.
I think the up pipe ryan had on his car that cracked at the welds was an Ebay, If it was me I wouldnt buy one, but thats just me I wouldnt by ebay anything.
I wouldn't buy one either.... but having a weld fixed is not that expensive. So are you more worried about your cash or the performance of your car? Wouldn't flow be an issue with cheaper exhaust?
i dont think flow would be an issue, i had a custom exhaust on my old wrx and didnt have any problems even with it being napa 3" exhaust and my first time doing a weld job, but for just a little extra i can get a full turbo back for 220... so i kinda figured i have nothing to lose if it dont work out i can easily sell it on craigslist for what i paid for it... and i found headers and uppipe for 100 shipped new but ill look into that more too..
