Went up to BIR for the last track day of the year today. Had an absolute blast as always! The car ran well and put down some pretty solid times. I don't get over to this forum much but wanted to take a second and thank Nuke for the help with the tune at the track to keep things safe enough but still make solid power on a cold day. Thanks to Chong as well for the advice and letting me follow him around the track for a couple laps to get a look at some different lines. I met a few others as well but am horrible with names. The track started very slick (it snowed once in the morning) but came around in the afternoon. There was a lot of cars but everyone kept it clean and had a good time. For anyone who has not made it up BIR for driving school I would strongly recommend it. STI's make awsome track cars with minimal upgrades and the awd is unreal when pushed to the limits. All for now, I will try to get up a vid and some pics once I figure out how to work my Dad's IPad Also, thank Roger and others for the zip ties and duct tape (not track related damage
Carl that was one of the best dog fights I've had in a very long time. You are a great driver. Sorry time did not permit but I'm looking forward to next time. Please tell Dan thanks again. Its not every day an Evo gets out driven by an STI, great job sir!
It was good to meet you again carl. (Im the one with the silver 04 like yours) chong is right you are definitely a good driver. You were ripping up the track. Hope to see out next year. -steve.
It was nice re meeting you as well. Small world that I tuned your GP GXP years ago and nearly completely forgot. Give me a shout sometime if you have any questions about getting your car track prepped. We always go up with a group of 7-10 drivers so next year if you want to head up with us let me know.
Any idea what lap times you were turning? I know its hard without transponders, just curious how a street subi compares to our Chumpcar.
I ran nearly all laps with a timer and video. Best recorded lap of the day was also my personal best of 1:47.04. I ran a total of 12 1:47 laps but am still searching for the elusive 1:46.00. I will be putting the car on a diet this winter and adding some suspension bits in hopes to get it into the 1:45 range next year.
Turn 2 would be good for a nice chunk, I also know there is something to be made up in the entry to and majority of the carousel. Then or course there is the rest of the track that could use work as well
Good meeting you too Carl, this is Jordan that came up with Steve (I've got an 08 sti). Hope to see you at the track next year! Chong - thanks again for the ride along! I can't wait to get the STi out there next year.
You're very welcome Jordan. I'm glad you guys decided to make the trip up north with us. This was ideal weather to showcase the beauty of the AWD system. I don't fear it, I love it! And I hope you guys did too. Baby steps pal, but I think you're ready. Looking forward to seeing you on the track on the 28th and then next season for sure.
