Ok that's all well and good that we know how they work, but we still do not have a thread (except this one) for posting the silly ads we may see.

Well, Carl is full of it, those ads are blocked. i can turn them on if you want. I did see a ad for 2010 unleashed and the rally mustang this morning. Russ
pretty sure the ads look at your history on your computer and the adds you see go off what you look at...
well that may be but both times I've seen this crap is on my work computer. Our work network blocks all sites like that so even if I wanted to, there's no way it would be referencing previously browsed. I've noticed I get a lot more variety of crap ads when I'm on at work. at home it's always the same cell phone ads edit, after looking at it, adsense picks ads based on the website's content within set filters. I'm sure if you looked, you'd find every other thread had some member saying, "that's a gay looking car" or "that's a gay mod" or "gay thread is gay". It also can do it by storing cookies from other adsense banners - so if you did visit a lot of sites with the same content that used adsense you would get more ads relevant to that. Which still doesn't explain it as my work computer clears out cookies frequently. also Russ, can you tell us if you have interest-based advertising turned on or is it just content based. I'll admit, I was sort of annoyed with what people were inferring, not to mention being called a liar. I've been keeping track of what ads appear for me tonight - so far it's pretty much been 90% google nexus phone ads. some netflix and some text ads.

yea my guess is that they were categorized by google incorrectly. I've also seen 1 ad for "fitness dating" or something like that. so in total out of how ever many thousands of page reloads I've done I've only seen dating ads 3 times. I'll screen cap if I see any again

Haha, I have seen that kind of thing a few times now. Google has indexed only about half of the site so far, so I am guessing that the ads will continue to get closer and closer to the thread that they get posted in. Russ
