Because this will happen if you don't.

The headgasket blew yesterday putting along on the freeway. Over 15k miles and the threads finally let go. I had no idea studs were supposed to bottom out. Kind of a debilitating oops.

The funny thing is I was going to put a clutch and dccd controller in this weekend and aside from putting that LSD back together, I was gonna be done, mechanically. So much for that idea.

I don't know what I'm gonna do yet. Derek has an extra block I can beg/borrow/steal. I might just bore that thing instead of trying to drill and tap the old one for 14mm studs that I can't get in the longer size for my SOHC heads. Even if I could get the 14mm in the longer size, they'd be $500+. Cobb and Cosworth are the only ones that make the 14mm studs, that I have found, and they are big money. Plus they are only for DOHC heads, like my studs are for.

So if anyone needs some DOHC studs, I have a set for cheap :mercy:

OHH that is not good. In the first picture are those the threads from the block? If so that is going to suck, I cant think of a good way to fix that since the threads are so deep.

Yup, stripped them out of the block on two studs on that side. I've lost motivation to finish tearing it apart at the moment. Maybe a few more beers and I'll be there, lol.

Its looking to me that if I want to use oversized studs, I'd need DOHC heads, and that just isn't in the budget right now. God knows there's enough EJ22T heads laying around.

Cripes, it still ran. I drove it from the street where the flatbed left it into the garage. I just wasn't thinking when I put it together. Its been running great otherwise. If I would have used the right head studs, I'd be breaking in a new clutch right now...

wait...you have cheap DOHC studs...I have DOHC's...interesting. I don't want to take my motor back out and apart though.

What clutch did you end up getting?

not beating the hell out of it right away. Let the disk seat into the flywheel and pressure plate a bit before you really give it.

probably on christmas break. I could get everything to put it together, but it'd leave me with about a dime to my name an thats not cool. I'll work a few weekends and be there though.
