Pretty disappointing. Looks like the current car with some ugly cladding. The performance isn't much different. Interior does look good, but the current car was decent enough. I predict a pretty significant body change/refresh to be on the way ASAP. I remember the revolt of 2008. I know every single time a new one comes out people immediately complain, but this is one of the worst. Better than 2008, but pretty bad.

I'm not disagreeing with any of the above, I just have no horse in the race at all since I haven't had any serious interest in a WRX for a few years now since owning the mayo on white bread sandwich that was the SJ XT.

It's no better nor worse than what they've already been doing for a while in my opinion. Over the last 15 years or so cars have all started to look the same. I'm interested to see what people have to say about the 'GT'.

2008 WRX, the only used car you could probably buy at pre-pandemic prices right now.

It's almost like it's not sure if it's supposed to be a sedan or crossover. I HATE boxy wheel arches almost as much as that hideous plastic body cladding repulses me. If you can possibly look past those wheel arches and cladding, I actually like the body design from most angles otherwise. What's actually remotely exciting is the 2.4L turbo engine in the WRX chassis - looking forward to seeing what it's capable of in the hands of legit performance shops testing its limits. Definitely not 2008 bad. Maybe the STI won't have the cladding...I might be able to live with the boxy arches without the cladding. At any rate, I'm not buying one because I'm poor anyhow. :)

Someone photoshopped paint matched cladding...I might actually hate it even more if that's possible

Does anyone know if that wheel arch cladding that is on so, so many vehicles offers any advantages (meaning ease of or lower cost) to the manufacturing or assembly process? Can it be strictly for appearance? If so, what is visually appealing by making the wheel arch look larger than it actually is? Or is it to hide the inevitable rust that forms in wheel aches for a longer period of time before it assaults the owner's eye? I have come to accept that visual styling cue on SUVs and crossover wagons, but on run-of-the-mill sedans? No.

If anything, it will speed up the rusting process.

Looks like a WRX mated with an Outback or Crosstrek. I agree with Joe...the most exciting part is the 2.4L.

    The rear end is hideous.
The rest just looks like a lowered crosstrek.

The 2.4 Turbo might be good who knows, in stock form the power isn't exciting. Its basically the same as the previous 2L and has an absurdly low redline.

Like I think they just took the exact same Ascent SUV engine (heads cams and all) and just retuned it a little for the WRX.

The interior does look good though. It is stupid that it seems they locked the adaptive suspension behind the ****ty CVT in the GT trim.

Just the idiots wearing flat-billed hats, or just the people wearing flat-billed hats that are idiots? I might need a Venn diagram.

Does anyone even wear flat billed hats anymore? And is a flat billed hat any hat that doesn't have a crease or curve in the brim? I typically wear a 5 panel hat that depending on the definition might be considered flat? Do I need to go put a curve in it?

Im curious, how can you tell? The wheels?
Because the fenders, grill, hood, fog lights all look the same as the 08 to me.

And yeah the WRX looked so lame and boring from 08-10. I can't believe people bought them lol.

This last Saturday up at ERX I asked Scott Speed (outside of the tent out of earshot of any powers that be) what he really thought about the new model, specifically performance and the Subaru "Performance" Transmission. He said he really meant what he said, that if he were to have to have one he would get the GT despite the CVT "they really did make it feel authentic this 2nd time around" and that no matter which way you go you will "feel the handling and NVH" improvements over the outgoing model as well as "torque always being on tap". I then went over to ask a lead tech on the team who I buddy with because he usually is on the Rally team and we have beers every Ojibwe. He stated "Can't say much other than we're excited to what we can do with the new engine so street tuners will be probably more happy". Take that FWIW.

As for me, if the STI is a GT with a six speed and the adjustable suspension and if it's true that in person the thing looks much better, and as a bonus it's anywhere close to 375hp or 350 (more likely will be some BS like 325) they might just have a little of my attention. It will take prying of my dead hands to let go of the Type-RA I picked up for the price of a base STI this year as it stands right now though.

Grill and wheels. They started putting WRX in the grill in 09 and the wheels were silver in 08. And if you could see the rear, the bumper in back was full color match where the 09/10 had black in the center.

too many people probably thought it was a Kia or something so they slapped WRX in the grill.
