well like I said in the timepole thred,
we were thinking of doing custom numbers on magnets,
    for the '08 ice races.
in order to bring the price down, I need to get an idea on how many
    ppl would want a set.

so far it would be this(edit):

    8" tall x 16" white magnet
    w/ black number

    lets start a list:
(the sooner, the better, these will be custom,
we won't have any extras at the 'race')

    1. phi11 #11
    2. readymix #19 two large
    3. mnstilynwrx ? what number???
    4. prezawagon # 153 one small
    5. RACEGIRL #23 one small
    6. RichWRX #30 one small
    7. AspitFire #41 one small
    8. Se7enrex #7 ? small
    9. carl #43 ? small
    10. 02blubru #34 ? small
    11. justin #21 two large
    12. evan #424 ? small

    2nd set list:

    1. curly2k3 #29, 2 small
    2. tangledupinblu #001, 2 small
    3. Justin #21, 1 large
    4. Dynapar #117, 2 small & #S3, 1 large
    5. Bullwinkle #255, 2 small
    6. Shibbs # 173, 2 small
    7. RichWRX #30, 1 large, 1 small
    8. Speedemon #424, 1 large
    9. boomer #52, 2 small
    10. Deride #i, 2 large
    11. 91talon #91, 2 large
    12. Aspitfire #41, 2 small
    13. Race girl #23, 1 small

Can we leave off a year, so that we can re-use these in the future? (not that we couldn't reuse them with the 08, but you know what I mean...) Number and screenname would be cool.

Also, could we have the option to just buy one? I think that's enough to identify the car for timing at the ice races. Depends if it makes much difference on the price I guess...

I'd take one if it's possible, #153 please.

We will be needing one set for sure..possibly two--I'll have to talk it over with Rich. Just a thought--but what if you don't print the year on it--then we can reuse them again in the years to come??

I dont think the decals for the year would be hard to remove,

I also think 1 would be enough, can you make 1 for me and 1 for the wife

Or you could simply do the year on printed vinyl and print a new section the same size for next year and put it over the old.

But I really wish you guys weren't calling this an "Ice Race"

    This is ice racing: http://www.angelfire.com/mn/icerace/

Going out and screwing around on a frozen lake isn't racing. Even is you set up a course and time people going around it, it's still at best an unsanctioned, uninsured rally-x.

No doubt most of you are going to think I'm just being old and uncool, but calling this kind of stuff "racing" is part of why it gets harder and harder every year for those of use who actually engage in organized competition to find places willing to let us do it.

Yeah, we should really do like the Audi club does and call it "Ice Driving", which is what it is. I think it's called the "Ice Race" now just because that's what it's always been called for mnsubaru.

Another thing, since it'll be cold, you'll want to make sure the size is small enough to fit on most cars without having to go over any trim or significant curves, or they'll just fly off. 12" tall should work fine, just saying you wouldn't want to go bigger.

And people should know to keep them somewhere nice and toasty warm (and very flat) until ready to put them on the car. And make sure the car is very clean when you start, or the magnets will grind dirt into the paint. A little white electrical tape along the leading edge is pretty much invisible (if the magnet are white) and keeps wind and tire spray from getting under the edge and peeling them off.

damn, yeah, looking at my avatar, 16" tall won't work for me. lol

keep in mind, the quote of $50.50 was for full color graphics,(printed)
and it sound like you guys don't want the " '08" (which makes sense)
also, this is a vehicle grade magnet, like .08mm-.09mm thick, not the cheap stuff.
yes, we can do only one.

now we need a new design.

Yeah, the Rally-america number backers are 50cmx50cm (call it 20"x20" roughly) and I've given up trying to make my magnetic (with vehicle grade) ones stick when it's cold. For next year I'll be using the Sentra at Shooting Star and just stick the vinyl straight on the car anyhow.

I would be in for a set.

I like like the idea of a screen name being on it.

if screen names are on it I will take #34
no screen name I will take #2002 or #02 if only 2 digits are allowed.

my met council number is 80, and my premade graphics are all for that number so it would be helpful if nobody claimed it.

And i kind of agree, there should be another name for this event in the future, it really isnt ice racing at all, more like "Ice driving vacation" which sounds lame, but i'm sure some name like "ice fest" or "supermegaultrawintertimefastdoriftofuntime" would work better

well we are trying to get alittle bit better on the official timing aspect.

that name might be alittle to long to fit on a magnet, unless we create and acronym.

I would see if you can contact anyone in the audi club. www.glacierlakesqclub.org. They have several "ice driving" events that are at least permitted by the local sheriff I think. They might have some tips on what you need to do.

Or, do you have any local radar runs for snowmobiles on the lake? You could talk to the snowmobile club and see what they have to do to run those.

I'd rather not have it turn into car vs car racing. I like the single timed runs, kindof a rallycross on ice.

as long as we get a permit for it during the day the night time can be whatever you want it to be.

I dont want to change anything, I just dont want the cops comeing by one day and saying we all have to stop.So if we get a permit for Saturday we will avoid them doing so.

The cops around here are nice,it would probably be the DNR who complains

My Dad is going to ask at city hall this week, and it will be by invite only. We wont call it a race that way we wont have to get a sheriff to be there.I just have to make lots of turns so we dont exceed the speed limit :)

Its not so much the license as it is the insurance you will probably be required to have to obtain a license, which will significantly increase the costs of the event and have ti s own set of restrictions as to what will need to be provided etc.

There is no way we could afford a wheel to wheel license. Single timed would be easier but to be honest, I don't really see much actual competing going on so I don't think its necessary.

yeah the lake is DNR juristiction. what is the speed limit on the lake? isnt it like 55mph? i was barely hitting 60 last year, so 55 shouldnt be an issue. also if its glare ice like last jan. acceleration will suck and it wont be an issue.

That sounds like a good plan. I don't think the sheriff hangs out at the audi events, but he might stop by. It was more for the people who live on the lake and call to complain each year, that way they can tell the caller that the event is permitted.

Martin, I think the speed limit (for snowmobiles at least) is 50mph. On the course that shouldn't be an issue at all.
