What kinds of gains can I hope for with access port tuning and a turbo back exhaust. Simple Question, I know, but its gonna be my first set of mods. 02 WRX.
may as well plan the up-pipe at the same time, while you're in there, I believe the number is around 50 whp or so. Better spool and more power, pretty much sums it up, I also got better gas mileage, but YMMV.
1. Lots more power through mid-upper rpm ranges 2. wicked turbo sound 3. plus a bit more power at low rpms as well I'd recommend going cobb for the whole thing. I did and am happy about it. Cobb ECU 93oct, Cobb TBE. I'm looking next to go w/ a power pully upgrade -w/ the cobb TBE you get the performance w/out a *hey look at me* exhaust. It growls but it's a good growl. makes you want to spend more. I'd agree on the up-pipe. You'll need to take the downpipe off to install the uppipe, so might as well slap it in there while you have the old downpipe off. It will be a different car.
you'll be as fast as an STi. add an uppipe to it and you'll average around 210-220whp depending on car.
You won't get STI power, that's a joke. The STI is a completely different beast. Once I had my wrx up to stage 2 I thought I'd test drive an STI to see the difference... H-U-G-E!!! The Stage 2 will give you great power over stock, but it'll take more than that to get you to STI power.
Here are my results as of this afternoon. Its an 05 STi. 1.Baseline 226 Hp, 230 Tq on DB's Dyno Dynamics dyno. 2.Cobb AP stg 1 with Invidia catback 264 Hp, 270 Tq on LSE's DD dyno. 3.Cobb stg 2 Invidia TBE 285 Hp, 290 Tq also at LSE. *Dyno disclaimer Dynos blah blah tuning blahblah weather blah blah.
wow baseline was only 16 more wtq than my 06 wagon. 50 more whp though =[ I think you can get an 06+ WRX pretty close to an STi but I've been in AP stage2 2 liters that definitely aren't as fast as a stock STi.
Don't bother with the Cobb AP. Get a Tactrix cable and save yourself $500. You'll laugh all the way to the bank...
so tell me more about this cable. I'm open to different ideas, AP just seems like the easiest solution.
The Tactrix cable is $90 available at Tactrix.com. It plugs from your port under the dash (below the steering wheel) to a laptop via USB. With it you can flash maps to your ECU, download maps, datalog while driving, read your codes, and in general monitor everything. You can also disable CELs (Check Engine Lights), which you will get when you go to Stage II. The software you do this with (Enginuity, TunerPro, EcuFlash, ECUexplorer, etc...) is all free, as are the maps (ask wotvs). If you order the cable, you should either buy the flashblock (available from Tactrix for $4) or find two paperclips. You need them to put your car into diagnostic mode when you flash. The software is simple to use. Lots of guys in the club can show you how to do it, and if you go to Firestone you can see firsthand how easy it is. I did it with a friend's help (wotvs) and was amazed at how straightforward it was. Uploading maps takes sixty seconds, whereas the old AP ran for close to ten minutes. Order the cable. Now. I did and never looked back.
Is anybody here able to do the reflash on the ECU for others? Will someone do it for you at Firestone? I would be willing to pay someone to do this for me.
