I would get a TDI before a honda. 40MPG City sounds good to me. But, we'll cross that bridge when we get there :)

No crap, that thing gets obscene amounts of torque with just an ECU reflash, and still retains most of its fuel economy doing it.

I could care less how much gas is going to cost me. Maybe if it hits $5 per gallon without seeing any sort of cost-of-living increases with it (because that's all my yearly raises are anymore) then perhaps I'd complain. My drive distance just doubled with my new position and my new car eats fuel more than the pig-rich turbo RS did (no kidding) but I just love driving too much to worry about how much it costs to fill my tank.

If gas is $5/gallon you won't just see your fuel bill increase. The cost of just about *everything* would skyrocket. Welcome to America where the economy is heavily-dependant on cheap oil.

What is not buying gas on one day going to do? Nothing...

You wanna really lower gas prices? Consumer demand needs to drop signifcantly over a sustained time frame... not one day. OR the production and refinment needs to be significantly increasted to superceed demand enough to cause prices to deflate.

I just filled up today, before the hurricane prices hit. Wont be buying gas on that day anyway. Hopefully I wont get lumped into some pseudo boycott / protest. :p

The only good thing is... we don't live in Canada where they go by the liter at 3.xx per liter. Thats over $12 for gal.

btw, there are tons of fanatics out there that ARE buying gas even though they don't need it. the reason there are the shortages that there are, is because people think that they need to buy gas when it is low to save money. this artificially inflates the gas prices because the demand increases (even though it is not really *true* demand), and gas stations raise the prices. yes, I know there is a disaster that has delayed/slowed production, but gas prices should not have jumped .75-1.00/gallon in just a couple of days.

some people have common sense and will only buy gas when they need it, but a majority of our population could be considered *slow* when it comes to situations like this. even though the president said what needs to be said, people will not listen, and will continue to fill up their spare gas cans and anything else they can think to put gas in. I personally know of people who have taken time off of work to fill all their cars, and every gas can in their house. what would you say about that?

Where are you guys filling up? It only cost me $2.98 for 92 in Maple Grove near my work.

Oh and it's only a matter of a week or two before gas prices will go down to what they were months ago. Even if not I don't really care what I'm spending in fuel. Cost me $40 to fill up today. I didn't care before the hurricane hit and I'm certainly not going to complain after it did. The only thing I'm sorry about is that I can't donate more, only partly due to spending more in gas.

Down here in Orlando FL, we just had another "shortage." It wasn't because there is a lack of gas, but some news station decided to mention that there "might" be a gas shortage because of the shut down refineries, and that prices will be going up. This then sparked everyone to FREAK OUT and go out and buy up all the gas on Wed night. Mix that with a rumor that spread like wildfire that they were going to be shutting pumps off between midnight and 6am to "divert gas to the relief effort". Add FL citizens, bake on 320 for 25 minutes, and you have a gas shortage.

I was on 1/8 of a tank, had been driving all day and not heard a word about this nonsense. But when I got back into town and went to get gas the first 3 stations that I went to were out, and the ones that had gas had lines that were 30min-1.5 hours. People were filling up tons of gas cans, one dude had a 55 gallon oil drum on his pickup. The cops came to aid in getting him to stop. So on Thursday our prices did go up, but magically there was (get this) A GAS SHORTAGE. Hm, imagine that. So now most of the stations have gas again, but some still don't.

This is what it was like when Charlie hit us last year. There was no gas to be seen for about 5 days anywhere, and the few places that had gas didn't have power to pump the gas.

Why? Because those people are morons. They aren't a as effected by this problem becuase they can simply cut back on those expenses.

The people actually being affected by the problem of skyrocketing fuel prices are the ones that can't afford those frivilouse expenditures in the first place. It goes well beyond paying more at the pump; that's just the most visible symptom. Our economy is VERY dependant on fuel; everything is giong up in price.

The killer is not what it costs, it is how much is has gone up recently... People budget for their "$40 movie" and $2.25 gas (taken from about a month ago). Add $0.50 - $1.00/gal and their budget is out the window. I constantly hear people bitch at the complainers, stating that it is $x.xx in some other country, but they miss the point. If gas went up 30-40% in those countries, they would be in the same boat. As a matter of fact, in Thailand gas is slightly cheaper than here, but they are just starting to see significant rises in cost and it is affecting just about everyone. It didn't matter if they had cheaper gas to start...

Anyway, I obviously have no clue what the commodity traders have going through their mind when they bank on "feelings" or "rumors" and raise the cost of oil (independent of Katrina) so I will sit back and bitch quietly from here on out.

Yep, about a 45% increase over the last year! That dwarfs even health care cost increases of about 12%; which is significant itself. It's no wonder businesses, and citizens alike, are hurting from fuel cost increases and trying to adjust budgets to make due. Businesses are paying tens of thousands dollars more on fuel costs than one year ago AND if they subsidise healthcare benefits for employees they encure those cost increases also! Then we all pay for it at the consumer level.... there's a dose of the 'trickle down effect' for ya ;)

might as well do what some ppl are doing...go to a gas station, get a full tank and then just get the hell out of there...hehe

saw on the news that someone filled up their car, and took off, and the owner of the gas station tried to stop that person but instead he got ran over and ended up in the hospital

$3.20? That was regular in Wisconsin last weekend! Now it has dropped to $3, which puts premium at $3.20.

The one good thing about the hurricane was that FOX News finally stopped blathering on about that missing girl in Aruba.
