Would an 02+ gauge cluster fit onto 98-99 RSs?

I'm pretty positive it won't. If you can get a gauge pod hood for the 98-01's you could just dremel out some lexan to fit the gauges and then paint it. I did it and it was extremely easy. I think it took me maybe a half an hour. Good luck with it, I noticed some defi pods that were for sale for the 98-01's on rs25.com. Good luck.

Usually when people say gauge cluster they mean the speedo, tach, etc...behind the steering wheel. Is that what you meant or did you mean the gauge pod for additional gauges as pictured?

Yeah I meant the speedo but Kelly mentioned customizing the pod. Zola do you know if they fit?

TURBO!!! hehe... It's pretty quick too! I ftd'd my first auto-x last sunday, and when I say I ftd'd my first, I mean it was my first time auto-xing ever. I'd say don't do it if you want your car to last a while, a swap is sooo much more reliable and has so many more options for mods. But I will say that low end torque is sooooo nice

Yeah, I finished with the fastest time of the day (ftd). There were a few tricked out scoobies, my friend has a sti ver 5RA swap in his 99RS and there were a few wrx's with bolt on stuff. There was also an evo that was pretty sweet. I think there were 45 cars total so it was a lot of fun. I'm still in amazement that I was the fastest there.
