There has been talk about people wanting Jorge to come back yet this summer to do another dyno day so I thought ide throw this thread out and see if there is enuff interest. Price would be again $450.00 per person, maybe a tad more for 2 hours on the dyno/tuning. We were thinking maybe end of August or early September. Post up if your interested! UPDATE 8/3/05: Were looking at the first weekend in Sept. guys, the 3rd to be specific. Please post up if that works for you. Again, any questions please post or send me a pm, thanks. UPDATE 8/9/05: Went to RS Motors last night and were all set for September 3rd. Just as a reminder, this is Labor Day weekend for those who didnt know so if this is a problem for you and you need to drop, please inform me asap so we can get somebody else in. 1.) c'mon guys lets keep this thread on track, i'd be interested but as i just posted in the chicago thread i'd want to talk to jorge first to see what he feels i could gain, with an accessport stage 2 and soon with up pipe i'm not sure if my gains would be worth that kind of money. maybe he could whip out a couple stage 2 tunes quicker and me and evan could split a 2 hour slot? or is that just a stupid idea? seems like a stage 2 car would be a much easier tune, each of us just get 1 pump gas map instead or somthin it shouldnt take as long.
I only have stage 2.5 as well. So I don't know if $450 is justified for the gains. But as stated before, if another stage 2er wants to split a shift, i'd go for sure if possible.
jason is very interested as well because he took off his sally pants and wants a higher boost tune and maybe a race gas map, he wanted me to tell everyone because he was too shy.
What I can gain really depends on the condition the car is in at that time. If it's running 11:1, then the amount of gains would be far less then if it was running 9.5:1 AFR. But I digress, that's peak power I'm talking about. If you talk to anyone from the last dyno day... it's a lot more to it then peak numbers. There's a lot more I do then simply tune up top. That being said... While I'm sure leveraging the economy of scale is a wonderful thing, experiance tells me that I should do other wise. So 5 cars MAX per day. As we saw last time.... what was supposed to end at 6, ended at almost 8 due to issues with cars. Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProjectWRX.com
That being said, you can count me in for one slot. Anybody else for sure they are in post up or send me a PM.
i'm thinkin thats a no to my question so i'm probably gonna back down, i'm sure jorge would work wonders with his magic little fingers on my car but i dont think i can justify it for the price with the mod level i am at, i was interested when i thought maybe me and evan could split a time slot or somthin and pay like 200-250 each. that would kinda suck to pay 450 for a nice stage 2 tune and then realize my car is still in desperate need of an 18g, maybe jorge would be interested in road tunes while he is here?
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=808282&highlight=stage+protune i'm having some troubles deciding, i did some searching on nasioc for stage 2 protunes and didnt find many results, this is the best i could dig up. remember the numbers in the post are from a dynojet but regardless his gains from the cobb base map are definately noticeable, much more linear. now my only engine mods by tuning day would be fully catless tbe, up pipe, intercooler hoses, and drop in filter, in the link above he has a stock mid pipe and catted downpipe but otherwise basically same as me. at the last dyno day how big of an issue was heatsoak for the top mount guys once they got that big fan on them under the hood? i have stock intercooler so this worries me, i could possibly fab up a shroud to clamp onto the intercooler and have a huge hose direct air in from the fan (have a pic on comp at home of one that a guy made up). my other question is what is a general limit for boost on the stock td04 could i push maybe 17-18 psi, i realize it would probably fall of drastically towards redline but i remember steve-o saying somthin about 17 psi on his stock turbo. and lastly, in that post he had a decent gain on race gas compared to pump also, not sure how much the stock turbo can really push but a race gas tune would be interesting. i'm not planning on going farther then a stage 2 on this car and a protune would definately wrap it up, but it would just really suck if i spent 450 on a tune and then decided later to go bigger... comments please
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=814948 theres a utec tune on a stage 2 car plus intake and upgraded tmic, no graphs though just numbers and impressions, just in case anyone cares. if i was to reach the limits of my cute little td04 would i be having any issues with stock injectors, top mount, or intake? or any other issues you guys think i might have or is the stock turbos limits going to come way before anything else? i am starting to think the tune might be worth the money, i'm not looking for a drag car or freeway monster here just a fun street car with a nice midrange and some torque. used for the occasional autocross and maybe track day or 2, oh and this should put me right around stock sti power (shutup erik, thats not funny). ive said enough, so now its your turn, suggestions please...
everyone ignore my threads i was simply thinking out loud, i found it somewhat interesting but you big power sti guys could care less  its a no go for me, jorge you could still post up i'd still be interested in some info on the limits of a stock turbo and what not, i'll prolly just do some nasioc searching, anyway i am out unless i could split a spot with another stage 2 guy
Again. I can't really comment on what the potential of your car is, without knowing how your car currently stands. Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProjectWRX.com
jorge, i didnt mean to ask you the same thing again i was asking more about limits of stock wrx turbo, fuel, intercooler, and stuff in general not neccesarily my car, but i found some stuff on nasioc for what i was looking for. no big deal.
WRX cobb stage 2, full scoobysport exhaust, Perrin short ram. May have a vf22/supporting mods and bigger IC by that time. Depends if I get a Cycle. 8)
Hey jorg, I currently have a cobb stage 2 setup with scoobysport full exhaust. Perrin short ram and intercooler hoses. I was looking at a vf22 and STI pinks for an install and maybe one of those cheaper TMIC on ebay. You have a ballpark power figure on what I could expect reliably?
Assuming the 550's are enough fuel (type typically aren't pushing it to it's limits), you should comfortably see 275-295 WHP on a dynojet/dynopack. For injectors, I'd personally consider the UR600's. As a matter of comparison... on 600's on a 34 (which flows a touch less then the 22) at 11.2:1 we're talking 92% duty cycle. That would have maxed the 550's and then some. Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProjectWRX.com
Reason why I was looking at the pinks and vf22 setup, is that I can run the vf34 cobb map, until I get the tune. Otherwise, I don't see how my car can run before the tune. If you have some suggestions on that, I'm all ears!! Oh, are the UR600 a dirct replacement for the factory setup? I don't want to monkey around with fabricating or cutting anything. Just simple plug and play.
You'd have to splice in new pigtails with the UR600's. That be it. So it's a strip, twist, solder, tape, deal. Supplying you with a temporary map to get you to the dyno is a no brainer. I do it for people all the time, under the strict stipulation that you drive the car NICE. Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProjectWRX.com
Anyone done this and install a turbo before? I will end up hiring someone to do this, since my high school days working on the GTI with zero $ made me swear that once I get a good job, I'll never get my hands dirty again.
Hey Jorge, I was on the phone with some vendors and looking on the nasioc site, but what is you take on VF22 vs TD05H-16G? They are in the same price range. I don't plan on tracking the car, just road riding with power to kick down if I want to once in a while. Also, since I am looking at getting the protuner done on my car, what cost differential would I be looking at?
if that last spot needs to be filled, i could possably make use of another tune.(cough*alckykit*cough) dont write me in yet, but just so you know if it comes down to needing a warm body, i'm your girl. schedualing might be my only pitfall. worse case scenario i may have to have someone be in charge of my car that day while i'm on family man duties.
Jorge, Besides the above info, if I went either super 16g or standard 16g, would you still recommend the ur600 injectors? I'll be buying this stuff within a week or two.
Will the tune be at the same place? do you have any Idea of the time slot that I will be in,since I have a 5 hr drive
