Anyone wanna help me finally put these into my car? They've been kinda sitting around for quite a while. I've got a voltmeter, coolant temp, and oil pressure gauges but only the oil pressure one still needs to be installed under the hood. The voltmeter should be pretty simple and the coolant temp sensor is already installed. I think I figured out how I can mount the guages in the OEM guage pod housing but I'll have to play with that as well. It's mostly just the oil pressure one I'm worried about. I also need to troubleshoot my EGT gauge as that went dead a while back.

I can likely get a nice heated garage with in-ground lifts to work on all this so for helping me out I can offer food/drinks and a warm place to work on your car if you need to do something to it. I plan on washing mine while it's defrosted :D

Sensor is kaput, that's my guess. They don't last forever. Contact the gauge manufacturer, a new sensor should be under $100.

I suppose there is an outside chance that it's a grounding problem, but then I would think it would read incorrectly as opposed to not reading at all.

Get the sensor from westach. I got mine for about $45, and it responds pretty **** fast. They make every kinda of k-type probe you could think of.

Although I don't know much about my car's modifications, maybe I can stop by and have my car put on the lift so you can check out how my oil pressure gauge was installed. That way, you can get a good idea when installing yours and I can see how it was installed. :)

By the way, I have an Exhaust temp gauge, a Boost pressure gauge in Bar measurements, and an oil pressure gauge installed.

My EGT gauge is a Westach, so I'll order up a replacement probe. I kinda figured that was what caused it to fail since I checked to make sure it was still attached to my exhaust but I didn't want to tear apart my A-pillar to see if the wiring was OK.

I'll see when I can get the shop, but I'm still looking for volunteers who can help with the wiring and installation.

Fong, a lift won't help you check out your oil pressure gauge install unless the sender is tapped into the oil pan somehow (sandwich plate above filter, drilled/tapped into drain plug). It's more likely that it's in the gallery on top of the engine block under the intercooler.

Garrett you know how to get ahold of me on IM, or my cell # is 612 423 2632...I seem to remember that your setup is NPT, so I assume you have an adapter if you are going the gallery plug route. I'm around all weekend except for Sunday afternoon when I'll be watching Blackburn v Chelsea on FSW. :D

No thread adapters. I thought about pulling one of the gallery plugs and just tapping it outright for some sort of fitting. The mechanical sender is about the size of a fist though, just worried about it and the vibration off the engine. I think there's at least room enough though. I assume if we let the engine chill for a while we'd be able to pull one of those without making a mess.

If you're worried about engine vibration then I guess I would say don't install the gauge. How are you going to measure oil pressure without connecting the sender to something that's directly or indirectly connected to the engine block?

I drive on the SE stretch of Lake Calhoun Pkwy all the time (bumpiest road in the City of Minneapolis IMHO), so if that's not vibration, I don't know what is. Reach in and try to wiggle my sender...it's not going ANYWHERE.

I've seen remote installs that mount elsewhere in the engine bay and run oil to the sender via copper capillary tubing. I could do this but I've decided against running easily-broken copper tubing through my engine bay

I'll get in touch with you later Joel, this is probably a few weeks out yet. It all depends on when I can get the garage. Was there something you needed to work on or were you just gonna wash your car ;)

OK, that's fine by me. It all depends on my tax situation. If I'm lucky and don't end up in the higher bracket, my bill shouldn't be too onerous and I can order my downpipe/racepipe.

If I'm unlucky we'll just have to do maintenance stuff like tranny and diff fluid changes. That'll be nice but not as fun as new exhaust bits.
