I am pretty torn right now as to the fate of the chassis of the legacy, I have a few options.

1: I could source out a blown up/high milage out of state legacy

2: I could Put countless hours into the body of the existing legacy and paint it, but then I would be anal about scratches and dents in all my hard work on the body.

3: suck it up and do an impreza swap.

the reason I am kind of straying away from doing an impreza swap is I really want to see/ own a minty fresh Legacy, and also at the same time want to be different.

Here are a couple pics of the body of the legacy right now:

An older one from the summer, some body work done. it came back a little bit though.

That body doesn't look too bad. Is there lots of rust underneath that I can't see?

People thought I was crazy when i bought my car in San Diego and Drove it back here...Call me crazy, but I love that it's about 99% rust free!

Well if you can find a good shell for cheap, that's probably what I would do.

I say option 3. Yes many have them, but each swap is to its own. For example, mine. Hybrid EJ22T WRX swap. It really isn't "oh there's too many Impreza swaps," but it's what you want the car to be and for what goal in mind. Come to think of it I do want to pick up an Impreza COUPE for my build because the chassis is stiffer than my wagon.

Drive it until you can get a new chassis. If it drive perfectly fine, just drive.

Don't be wimping out on me! Everybody has a damn Impreza. Ya, I could have copped out and gotten one too, saved 400lbs, and called it a day. But at the same time, the Legacy has always been the nicer car in the Subaru lineup. Also, nobody on the road suspects you. Imprezas on the other hand are stolen and messed with quite a bit.

I dunno, do what you have to.

I agree dan, I said in the original post I am not interested in getting an impreza, I guess the question is fix my current legacy or get a minty out of state leggy, most likely n/a and drive it up......

Just looking for opinions guys, im not basing my life on what you all say lol

    also,

I have been doing some searching around craigslist for legacies out of state and I have calculated it will cost around 2000 dollars for a clean car after you figure in the plane ticket, and gas getting back.

I will fix the body of my current legacy.

You will all be jealous of the paint scheme......... top secret stuff here.

If the body is in the shape you say it is I'd go for a new(er) Legacy. Unless you really enjoy welding and replacing body panels only to have to do it again AFTER your shiny new paint job I would recommend getting a newer chassis.

The 98-01 Legacy GT Chassis are very pretty.

Do you have a cheap(er) place to do the painting? I am looking at getting mine repainted (if I don't sell it) when I come back from the Desert and I'm planning on spending about $5-7K to get it done.

Body work isn't that hard. It takes time, patience, and attention to detail. Welding in a few panels isn't the end of the world. IIRC, you can still get sheetmetal from subaru.

Personally, I'd never spend $5-7k on someone else doing my bodywork. You are paying rediculous money for someone to cut, grind, hammer, weld, and chisel. Granted, you want someone experienced to actually spray the car. What the first gen Legacy has going for it is that its very flat. Which is a beautiful thing in terms of bodywork.

Any time you want a decent honest estimate on premium quality rust repair and/or paint, call me over at Centerline Truck & Auto off of 61 & Buerkle Rd. We do alot of rust repair and body repair on all kinds of vehicles. Can have paint work done, but make sure you understand that all body and paint is not equal. We have the best alignment tech in the area too.
