Just gotta rant a little bit so I got Followed today by a Bloomington police officer. she pulls me over and ask me about my tint right off the bat which is 50% she tested it then she gets out the meter for my loud exhaust which is stock no holes or leaks to make it loud. At this point she's asked me for my license and insurance after the 10 mins stop go back to her car gives me a speeding ticket for 38 in a 35 said that's the rule and told me to go. I'm pretty sure I was going 36-38 but you know we're all human. I can't fight the ticket because I technically was speeding By law is I was going 38. Sorry I just felt like I had to just vent a little bit. This isn't my first run in with Bloomington police haha
All depends on who you get. I just had one claim I stole my tabs cuz they weren't updated in his computer, only believed me when I found the paper they come with and me receipt with it. Also one cop in particular like to stop the gf, never given her a ticket but always seems to stop her.
Haha yea that happen to me to I got new plates when I got my car and the cop put me in the back of his car and everything it embarrassing but I got to go after some time but yea this lady cop I've never seen before and trust me I've seen most of the same Bloomington cops cause I've live in Bloomington for 23 years as a kid I was cause trouble maker Hehe it's ok tho Crappy stuff happens
Maybe you made quite the impression on them when you were a young troublemaker and they now keep an eye on you. getting tagged for 38 in a 35 does suck though.
Yeah, theres a ton of cops there. Usually in the morning and evenings doing speed traps so be cautious especially on American Blvd.
Just some inside thoughts from knowing a lot of LE professionals: Fast looking car with the appearance of modifications = attention gaining. If you find an officer who has some free time, they will tag you for whatever law you're even slightly in violation with in order to check out the car and the occupant for more serious stuff (and almost all of the time they find something more serious). Perception IS reality for them. If you have a wrap sheet (speeding, etc) and you were pulled over for speeding, they will probably add to it with a ticket. Its just trending. They need to establish what laws a person routinely is violating so that the punishment reflects the number of times you are hit for the same offense. I know it sounds weird to think about that way - but basically if you have a LOT of tickets for one thing and you want to stop getting them - you can either stop speeding AT ALL in a car that is attention gaining, or you can get something that isn't flashy and stick to your habits.
My father in law always says, "you are 30% at fault because you were there" If you have a lot of priors, he probably ran your **** and saw them and decided you needed more.
I wish there were a program that would force the Peace Officers to "roam" into other cities that actually need them when they dont really have anything productive to do that would help the community. (Like pulling over cars that "look" fast just because they look fast/flashy) I work too hard to get harrassed by the police just because I have something nice. Props go out to the MPLS and STP police for having something to do and not wasting my time ever.
They like to look for opportunities to show people how dumb they think they are. The rest of us don't care. As this is a car forum, not English or elitist class. (or for Ben - could care less)
I had an insurance company tell me that it was 50% my fault that someone backed into me, just because I happened to be driving down that particular aisle in the parking lot.
If you have a relatively clean record, you can appeal to go to a driving class or something similar. Or just plead the old "Wasn't paying attention" case. Especially since it was only 3mph over. Takes an afternoon, but it gets dropped from your record. I've done it twice, but I don't get off that easy anymore...
LOL, someone's butt still hurts. Don't worry, I brought the wooden cross, a fist full of nails and a hammer with me to this thread. Whenever you're ready to get on that cross and start playing MNSubaru Martyr Jesus again, I'll help you up there and be the big bad moderator again.
That's why I drive a FXT. Even the insurance company says "its just a small suv, what you you do with that". Russ
Judge's give you 1 mph off from your speedometer and 1 mph off on the laser so you were only going 36 in a 35. Since it was more than likely in a residential area, this will probably go on your record. I would fight that all the way! No way I would have been that nice!
I bet a bajillion miles and a few more turns than they are allowed by law! ...Except that an officer can observe a vehicle for as long as they wish. There is no law against it.
Meh, law enforcement has a thankless job. People want nothing to do with them...right up until the point they *need* them, then people are like "...what took you so long?...". My gut tells me that folks on this forum speed to one degree or another *often*. Does it really matter how far above the speed limit you got nicked for? The They will get you.
It does because if you want to go with the excuse of the law is the law then the cop should not get to decide who they let go with no ticket. Iv been nabbed at 4 MPH over with a ticket and also been in the car when someone was let go free at almost 15 MPH over. P.s. no matter the outcome I always am polite end with a thank you and or hand shake. Keeps them on their toes cuz they think everyone will act pissy about a ticket.
Fair approach. The reality is that you're not going to beat The They. I've owned WRX variants for a decade, hooning all the while. Pick your spots and accept your demerits. Just imagine if you'd been caught for *all* the shenanigans you've committed... A recent ticket is small potatoes.
Knock on wood I have never gotten a ticket in either of my subarus. Also of course everyone is going to get caught it just grinds my gears that it almost hits a personal level of getting a ticket or not.
I've owned my Sti now for 6+ years and the only ticket I ever got was for my kid not being in a booster. When you buy into these cars I feel you pretty much buy into the stereotype and just have to be proactive about who is around you. Oh and btw I've never passed a cop on the hwy when he's ahead of me almost seems like your just asking for it then.
I agree with the tasty Soup. If you got a ticket for every law that you broke, then you'd really be pissed. I usually get a ticket of one form or another(speeding, tint, etc.)about every 3-5 years. It's really not that big of a deal. There are times that i have felt like i'd been "profiled"...also part of owning a bright blue car with a big spoiler. Ironically enough, since i threw the 6 foot vinyls on the car, i've been pulled over less than when my car was stock, lol. Save $5/month for tickets, or get a sleeper and keep the speeds down. Even then, you're not guaranteed to be ticket free. Flatbill profiling...it's what makes Subaru a Subaru!
Yup, especially since it's virtually impossible for any adult US citizen to go through their day without breaking a law, no matter how hard they try not to. Cops use some common sense discretion because they have to. Otherwise they'd have to stand in one place and hand out tickets all day long to whoever happened by. That makes the ones who don't bother with common sense fairly asshole'ish.
You'll be surprised but I've never gotten pulled over for anything ever since I had my license back in high school. Nothing, none, zero, not even a warning
hah! I have a colleague who just got his first ticket ever last month. He was completely mortified. For some reason he thought I would have expertise to offer on how to deal with it. *shrug*
It's funny how surprised most officers are that I couldn't give 2 ****s that I'm being pulled over. They come back with an astonished look on their faces after seeing my rap sheet. You should have heard the conversation with the prosecuter the last time i showed up to have a ticket reduced, pretty much a laughable idea to him, then the judge went and reduced it anyway.
Referring to yourself in the 3rd person is guaranteed to earn you at least Pi tickets in the next 12 months.
