To change out a stereo. Is it easy to take out the stereo and be able to plug in an interface cable for my iPod? 06 subaru 2.5i Thanks.
i don't even know where to begin. once i get into it, i can do it (with help from a friend). but anyone know how i take the stock one out?
remove the radio surround. (i havnt done it on an 06, but it looks like you just use a seporator tool between the trim and the radio.) then remove the 2 screws. then pull out shift trim/lighter assbly. viola there are your 6 screws holding in the factory radio. dont lose ground.. i believe it's still just clipped on the back of the tray.
I did a friend's auto 2.5i and my manual tr. For manual: 1) pull up on the shift boot towards the back. The boot and trim should pop right out. You can screw off the knob, but its not necessary. 2) remove the 2 screws above the ashtry/cig lighter. You can unplug that stuff if you want but you can also just pull the boot/trim to the side. 3) tape up a flat head. slide it behind the trim and pry the trim towards you. The rivets are near the top. Some force is required. It shouldnt break (I've hamfisted mine out at least 5 times and havent broken it yet). 4) remove the 6 visible screws that hold the cage in. 2 are recessed towards the middle/bottom. Then two on each side at the top. 5) Slide the double din out and start unplugging stuff. Auto is the same except the shift boot part... actually, there might have been a tab on the trim... Just pull up on it and you'll see what you need to do. hope that helps
too late... discopope is right, the ground is clipped to the passenger side of the cage and the right separator tool would work better than a screwdriver.
