Any reason NOT to get one of these to unleash great vengeance and furious anger on unsuspecting prairie rats? Kan has skohp?
http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=5808&return=Y# I get tingly just thinking about bursting vermin.
Looks good, but I am still out to lunch on the muzzle balancer. You have some place to shoot at things?
My wife just bought her first firearm and I am looking for a place to go plinking, and get her some time off the confines of a standard range. She is unsure about killing things right now, but who knows what the future will hold for her
Mini-14s are way overpriced for what you get. And that stock is hideous! For the price you could get a nice AR-15, or you could purchase a pair of Remington 700s in differing calibers. Just about anything works on prairie dogs.
We got her a .22lr, don't think she will be blowing up dogs anytime soon. Not to be the ghey california hippy here, but what is the purpose of killing them?
Because cattle step in the holes and break legs. They are also prone to developing the Black Plague which you don't want livestock or pets around. Also, they got it comin'...the smug bastards...
Why not look at something in the .17HMR/.17 Mach 2 variety? Flatter shooting, higher speed and apparently they're the new "in" round for doggers. Otherwise I think you need a .50. Those little buggers are starting to wear armor
I like .270's. A little much for prairie dogs, but a versatile caliber. Fast rounds, flat shooting, and have no troubles with whitetail. If Ialready didn't have a Remmington 700BDL in 30-06 I'd consider one.
This will be ideal for Prairie dogs: http://www.dillonaero.com/content/p/9/pid/1/catid/1/Standard_M134D
Yes, but your day would be over after one VERY SATISFYING 60 seconds of fury (and I don't need a Gatling for that). Too many options. I also like the DPMS derivatives in .308. I haven't purchased a new rifle in many moons...what is shocking me the most is the cost of optics! They're >1x the cost of the darn gun.
If you're going to go that route, check out the new 6.5mm/6.8mm round. Most of the new M4/AR variants are coming out in that round and the ballistics are very impressive.
I know of a very good deal on a mini-14 with scope, Sean. 1/2 the price. I can get you contact info for the guy in CO.
Yeah, and based on how many rounds they fired without killing people it's no wonder we didn't "win" in Vietnam. Maybe they should do a remake where they actually kill people and every episode doesn't involve BA welding up a Killdozer... Still, for varmints you'd want something cheap to shoot (so no .284 ammo) but you should use a rifle that you use for hunting other things (if you do deer). You could always go commie (7.62x54) or .308. The 7.62x39s are not accurate at longer ranges.
Haha. My SKS sans scope is "ok" out to 100yd. Beyond that you're better just hurling insults at your target (cheaper too).
Dibbzors. Shorten - don't be poaching ghunz (unless you have a Swatty Shotty you want to part with!). Also, how about the 4,200fps .204 Ruger? Kills, cleans and lightly sears its vermin victims.
Savage Mark II, .22lr BSA 'Sweet 22' 3-9x40 Corprin OIF Spl Harris Bipod this is my wife's new toy. .22lr > 17hmr/17hm2 or shall I say it costs less I was toying with the idea of rebarreling my K98K into 22-250 for some varmint fun...unless someone knows of a heavy barrel for cheap in .223?
